Chapter 243
Jack lowered his voice and said, “I never said I wanted to work with him.”
The other foreign investors nodded in agreement. “Mr. Snider, we’re not working with Mr. Jamison.”
However, a verbal decision meant nothing.
Moreover, Carter and Rhea were about to divorce. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that Liam
didn’t like Carter.
Liam’s words had practically shouted that he didn’t recognize Carter as his son–in–law.
There was no reason for Jack to disregard Liam’s opinion and offend him.
George pulled out a cigarette.
Jack quickly took out his lighter and lit the cigarette for him. “I’ll consider the projects Ms. Ravelle chose carefully. I hope you can put in a good word for me with the Ravelles.”
George had initially intended to work with Jack.
But after the Ravelles left without discussing business, Jack knew that the family wasn’t pleased. He had no choice but to swallow his pride and ask George for a favor.
If the deal went through, Jack wouldn’t mind handing his overseas medical equipment business entirely to the Snider family.
Marcus, who had just arrived nearby, overheard Jack. He said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Deleon. Mr. Snider is busy, but perhaps Mr. Jamison can give it a try. After all, being the Ravelle family’s son–in–law makes things a bit easier.”
Carter thought for a moment. “If you need me to, Mr. Deleon, I can give it a try.”
Jack froze.
He had hesitated too, unsure of the Ravelle family’s private affairs. If the divorce did not proceed, he would risk indirectly offending Carter.
After weighing his options, he said, “Mr. Jamison, it’s not that I don’t trust you, but I’m a foreigner. Doing business here carries risk. If something goes wrong, you would end up dealing with the fallout
too.”
“I’ll leave first, Mr. Deleon. We can talk another day,” George said.
“Of course, of course!”

In the car, Rhea asked, “Dad, are you mad?”
Liam shook his head and looked at her. “I’m just a little disappointed. His boldness is wasted in the wrong place.”
If Carter had come to Draventh with Rhea after their marriage, even if Liam had initially disapproved, he would have eventually eased up for Rhea’s sake. He might have even supported
Carter.
But what did Carter do? He had known better, yet kept making mistakes.
Liam said, “I’m not going after him now because it’s unnecessary. If we crush him, people will say that we’re abusing our influence. After all, he’s alone here. But once you’re divorced, we’ll be strangers to him, and then anything we do will be justified.
“If you ever want to remarry, I’ll pick someone for you. No one will dare talk behind your back. If you don’t want to marry, then just stay at home. Your mom and I can take care of you.”
Rhea looked at the streaks of white in Liam’s hair and felt a pang of sadness. She clung to his arm. ‘
Dad, thank you.”
Meanwhile, Lauren had been waiting in Jamison Manor. “Carter, you’re back? Have you had a few drinks? I made you some late–night snacks.‘
She wore clothes that radiated softness, and her tone was light and gentle, like that of the ideal wife.
But every bit of humiliation Carter faced that night had been because of Lauren.
If she hadn’t claimed to be his fiancee when they first arrived in Draventh, none of this would have
happened.
Once he secured the deal with Jack and finalized the divorce from Rhea, they could finally have peace. Even if the Ravelles didn’t like him, at least Liam wouldn’t have publicly humiliated him that day.
Carter’s eyes burned with anger. “Why did you have to peacock in front of Rhea just now? Did you want everyone to recognize you?”
