He gestured. “Excuse me, I need to take this.”

Rhea didn’t respond.

Carter answered. “Yes, Ms. Lowe?”

“Mr. Jamison! Adrian got into a fight with another student and is unconscious in the hospital! You need to get there immediately!” Amelia spoke urgently.

Carter nearly jumped out of his wheelchair. “What? Adrian’s unconscious? How is he now?”

When Rhea heard that, she frowned at him.

Amelia replied, “I don’t know the full details. The doctor said that the parents need to get there as soon as possible. It seems like it could be life–threatening, so please hurry!”

When he hung up, panic overtook him. “Rhea, Adrian’s in trouble.”

The staff members escorted Rhea out of the courthouse.

Lauren had been waiting outside. When she finally saw Carter emerge, her face lit up with a radiant smile as she approached. She gently asked, “Carter, is everything done?”

However, Carter didn’t reply. His gaze was fixed on his car.

In his haste and panic, he almost overturned the wheelchair several times as he maneuvered it out.

He wasn’t usually a gentle, attentive father, but that was his son! If his luck ran out, this might be the only son he ever had, so nothing could happen to Adrian.

Carter’s heart shook with fear and urgency.

Lauren looked at Carter’s and Glen’s hands and noticed that their hands were empty. Puzzled, she asked, “Carter, where is the divorce certificate? I don’t see it. Why don’t you give it to me first? I can keep it safe.”
