Chapter 277
A wave of helplessness washed over Carter.
It was his fault, too. His own lack of power had caused his children to be mocked at school in
Draventh.
And the root of it all lay with Lauren. If she hadn’t scared the kids that one time, none of this would have gotten out.
“Do you think their stance is acceptable?” Carter asked the school principal, Richard McNeil.
“You have all the surveillance footage. Adrian only gave that boy a little push, and that kid didn’t even flinch. But he shoved Adrian with everything he had. That’s basically attempted murder. I’m going to sue them.”
With that, Carter turned to leave.
Richard stopped him and said in a low voice, “Mr. Jamison.”
Carter looked up.
Richard sighed. “The older boy’s family… has a high–ranking official in Draventh. Even if you take them to court, your chances aren’t great. And it’s a fact that Adrian started it first. They’ll latch onto that fact. Pushing back could make things worse. You’re planning to stay in Draventh, right?”
The message was clear–Carter should just let this matter go.
In all his years in Colburn, Carter had never been forced to tolerate an injustice like this.
But the truth was, he lacked the power to fight.
He clenched his jaw so hard that the veins in his eyes stood out like red threads.
“We didn’t handle things well either. We’ll cover any costs we’re responsible for,” Richard promised,
But Carter didn’t care about money. He had the surgery costs covered. What he wanted was an apology
Adrian had been insulted and pushed off the flag platform. He needed an apology for those matters.
“Who exactly are they?” Carter asked.
“The Meltons.” Richard sighed. “Mr. Jamison, I really suggest you let this go. Talk to them nicely and just try to get whatever you can.”
Carter looked at him, said nothing, and left. He could never ask Adrian to endure this injustice.

By the next day, he had his company’s legal team draft a lawsuit. He was taking the matter straight
to court.
In the ward, Adrian was already awake.
Seeing him hurt like this broke Carter’s heart. He stayed by his side the entire time. “Adrian, does it still hurt?”
Adrian gave a small blink. His voice was hoarse and frail as he said, “Yes… Is Mom here?”
His question made Carter fall silent.
At that moment, Grace appeared at the door. “Mr. Jamison.”
“I’ll be right back,” Carter told Adrian.
After he left, Lauren, who had been staying in the ward, stared at Adrian in bed with no trace of pity in her eyes.
She shattered Adrian’s hopes without hesitation. “Rhea’s not coming. She’s not going to save you.”
Arielle glared at her. “Stop talking nonsense!”
Lauren’s expression was blank, and her voice was soft. “It’s the truth. If you don’t believe me, you can ask your dad.”
“Mom would never ignore Adrian!” Arielle pointed to the door. “Please get out!”
However, Lauren simply ignored her. Her mind was still preoccupied with that document envelope.
Carter didn’t have time to worry about it yet, but she couldn’t stop herself.
However, the envelope was in Glen’s hands.
Lauren got up and left the room.
From a distance, she saw that Carter was on the phone.
Lauren stepped outside the hospital and tracked down Carter’s car. Glen was sitting inside. She tapped on the window.
Glen rolled it down. “Yes?”
Lauren pressed her lips together. “There’s five million dollars on this bank card. You can have it. Just let me see what’s inside the document envelope. It’s a good deal, right? Even after ten years as a driver, you wouldn’t have earned five million dollars, would you?”
