Chapter 387
Evie’s smile faded. She asked, “Is George the only one you think about?”
Connor suddenly said, “Your mom and I will never approve of you and George.”
They had once been very pleased with George as their son–in–law, but now that he had become their enemy, it was impossible for them to ever be family.
Kate took a seat and cast a long, heavy look at Connor.
George’s words from before echoed in her ears like a haunting spell.
It was hard to believe that someone as upright as Connor could have done something so vile.
She shut her eyes briefly. “Nobody’s perfect. Even those who look polished on the outside might have a side no one ever sees.”
Connor and Evie assumed that she was talking about Sawyer and didn’t press the matter.
Kate then said, “I’m heading out for a bit.”
She left the oncology hospital and crossed over to Draventh First Hospital across the street. Her people had told her that Liora and the others had gone to visit the children.
“Ms. Pearson, if you go there now…” The bodyguard hesitated.
Kate and Rhea weren’t exactly on good terms at that moment. So he figured that her presence probably wouldn’t be welcome.
Kate understood that perfectly. “The Ravelles came to visit my mom, so it’s only right that I return the courtesy.”
Whether she was welcome or not wasn’t her concern. What mattered was not letting outsiders think she lacked manners.
So when she stepped into the ward, every face reflected surprise.
Nevertheless, Philip received her with courtesy. “Ms. Pearson, have some water.”
“Thank you, Philip.”
Kate glanced toward the hospital bed. “They were fine just a few days ago. Why the sudden hospitalization?”
Carter’s eyes flicked over George, but the latter ignored him completely, treating him like he was invisible.
“The doctors are already running blood tests. The results will be out soon,” Philip explained.
They needed to identify the exact toxin before any treatment could work. Fortunately, the children’s conditions were stable for the time being.
Rhea sat close by, frowning. Her eyes never left the two kids. A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at Kate’s lips as she watched.
Rhea’s friends tried to comfort her, while George held her hand tightly, giving her a deep sense of security.
Kate sat apart from them all, almost like an observer waiting for the next act to unfold.
Just then, the door burst open, and a figure rushed in.

“Rhea! What did you do to my kids? Even if you hate me, you shouldn’t take it out on two innocent children!” Lauren tore off her mask as she spoke.
George instantly turned toward the doorway.

The bodyguards hurried forward. “Ma’am, you need to leave.”

“My kids are here! Why should I leave?” Lauren shouted, “Where are the reporters? Over here! My two perfectly healthy kids went to their stepmother’s place and ended up poisoned and hospitalized! Please, everyone, help bring these monsters to justice!”
Reporters swarmed the ward, desperate for a scoop.
George immediately shielded Rhea from their lenses.
Within seconds, more guards stormed in and shoved the reporters back out.
After that, George stepped out of the ward. The reporters were still frantically snapping photos.
Once he stopped, his cold gaze swept over the crowd as he said slowly, “Either you delete every single photo and walk away, or you disappear from the media industry for good.”
It was only then that the reporters realized who they had just photographed–George.
The lead reporter quickly forced a smile and said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Snider! We didn’t know it was you! I’ll delete it right away!” George turned back to the bodyguards, his tone as sharp as a blade. “What’s the matter? Too weak to stop them?”
The guards fell silent.
Rocco quickly called for more men, doubling security on the entire floor.
Just then, Kate’s voice drifted closer as she approached. “They’re only doing their jobs, Mr. Snider. Why make things hard for them?”
