Chapter 396
“Mr. Whitfield?” Kate got to her feet.
The visitor was Seamus, the chief secretary at Snider Group. He was usually buried in work, arguably even busier than George himself.
Seamus handled anything George couldn’t manage himself. There was no doubt that Seamus‘ presence was just as commanding.
Kate’s mind raced. She wondered if Cynthia had already spoken to George. Was that why Seamus was here?
Meanwhile, Connor and Evie looked uneasy.
Kate set her phone down and smiled. “Mr. Whitfield, let’s talk outside.”
Seamus stepped into the ward, exuding a cold, commanding presence that made anyone feel cautious.
He threw a folder onto the table. Inside was a printed chat record, visible at a glance through the transparent cover.
Seamus took a seat on the couch and leaned back. His icy gaze swept over Kate.
He began sharply, “Ms. Pearson’s every word and action has affected Mr. Snider and his girlfriend’s life. Mr. and Mrs. Pearson, shouldn’t you offer an explanation?”
They were chat logs between Alfonso and the media, which was enough to prove that Kate had orchestrated everything.
Seamus continued, “Ms. Pearson is suspected of poisoning the two children and then using the medicine as leverage to coerce Mr. Snider and Ms. Ravelle into compliance.
“Mrs. Pearson, we can understand that she probably wants you to see her married and settled soon. But we have a question. Do you, as her parents, approve of this behavior?”
Kate’s pupils constricted, a flash of anger and hatred lighting her eyes. She couldn’t believe he dared to say all of that in front of
Evie.
Evie’s eyes reddened instantly. Her breathing turned shallow. “Kate, you…”
But Seamus showed no intention of stopping. He watched coldly as Evie struggled to catch her breath and readied himself to
continue.
Kate suddenly yelled, “Enough! Shut your mouth!”
Seamus, as Snider Group’s chief secretary, managed countless affairs daily. But this was his first time speaking for George on a personal matter, so he naturally went all out.
He let out a sneer. “Bold enough to act, yet afraid of what others might say? The Pearson family’s so–called values really leave a lot to be desired.”
Since Kate had the nerve to attack George and Rhea, he figured that he might as well attack her in return.
As George’s chief secretary, his job was to do what George couldn’t–or wouldn’t–do himself. So Seamus felt not an ounce of guilt at this moment.
Just then, Evie coughed up blood and collapsed.
Kate’s scream tore through the ward. “Mom! Mom!”
Medical staff rushed in, immediately starting emergency treatment.
Amid the chaos, Seamus said calmly, “What can lift you up can also bring you down. Ms. Pearson, you profit from public outrage.

Aren’t you afraid the same crowd will turn on you? A little moral restraint would have been a way to earn merit for your mother. I’ll release this information online. Whether you survive or not will be up to fate.”
Kate pointed at the door, fury blazing through her. “Do you even have any sense of decency? Get out of here!”
However, Seamus didn’t budge. His reply was quick. “I don’t. So I’m not leaving until this is sorted. It doesn’t matter. I have time. Once your mother wakes, I’ll continue asking her how to raise a daughter capable of such vile deeds–then maybe I can avoid ever producing someone like you again.”
Kate trembled with rage, but Seamus simply smiled as he calmly sipped water.
