Kate cocked her head. “Did I not make myself clear enough?”

“How about tomorrow?” Kate sat back down while holding a wine bottle, her voice soft and melodic. “I want those clothes delivered by 1:00 pm tomorrow.”

The designers felt immense pressure. “Understood.”

They left immediately, rushing to find help to make the clothes overnight.

In the bedroom, Kate stood barefoot on the floor, swaying the wine bottle. Wearing a sheer white dress, she closed her eyes, hummed a tune, and danced gracefully around the room.

In the dead of night, the Pearson residence was lit by a single dim lamp that faintly illuminated her swaying silhouette.

She seemed… unhinged. 1

The following day, Connor left the house early in the morning. When Kate woke, she didn’t ask where he’d gone. Their already distant relationship had grown even colder after Evie’s death.

Kate had always known her father resented her for being a daughter, unable to continue the Pearson family line.

She sat at the dining table and had the maids bring more wine. She was now drinking at any hour, whether during the day or at night.

Before her was a photo of Evie.

Her eyes reddened as she gazed at it. “Mom.”

She picked up the photo and rubbed it against her cheek as if she were still seeking comfort in Evie’s arms as she’d always done. She murmured, “Why did you get cancer? Why did you have to jump?”

Kate thought that it would have been nice if it had been Connor instead. Then, Evie would still be

with her.

Just then, the butler announced, “Ms. Pearson, that woman named Lauren Thayer is here.”

Kate propped herself up and glanced back. Lauren entered the house, fully covered with sunglasses, a mask, and a scarf.

“You don’t need to cover yourself up like that,” Kate said laughingly. “Come, sit.”

Lauren complied, sitting across from her.

Watching her remove her gear, Kate’s lips curled into a faint, cold smirk. She wondered if Lauren was that afraid of being recognized. However, Lauren didn’t have anything worth taking. She was just a pathetic person and a worthless life.

Kate asked, “Did you do what I asked?”

Lauren frowned. “Rhea’s people won’t let me near the kids.”

Kate had given Lauren a small bag of candies to feed Arielle and Adrian, but the latter hadn’t found an opportunity to do so.

“You can’t even manage that?” Kate kept smiling. “You’re not worth much, then.”

Lauren panicked, vowing, “Just wait! I’ll definitely find a chance to give it to them!”

The reason she obeyed Kate was that the latter held videos of her in bed with those old men. Thus, she had no choice but to comply.

However, Kate had also promised that if Lauren succeeded, the videos would be destroyed, and she would get a large sum of money to start over elsewhere.

Lauren wanted to erase her past and live anew. She wanted money to spend freely! Above all, she wanted to get revenge on Rhea and cause her downfall!

“I’ll give you one more week,” Kate said. “Poison the two kids and frame Rhea for their deaths.”
