Louie thoughtfully walked a few steps ahead. Behind him, George and Rhea walked side by side.

“Want me to give you a ride?” George asked.

“No, thanks. The hotel’s close by,” Rhea said.

George had mentioned the Colburn incident earlier. Although she hadn’t known the details, she could more or less piece it together.

She realized that Carter had been publicly referring to Lauren as his wife for a while now.

Rhea gave a bitter smile. She didn’t know how she could have been so foolish to hold on to even the faintest hope for him. 1

“Alright, then,” George said simply and left.

Rhea was heading toward the roadside to get a cab when a car’s headlights suddenly flared on and beamed in her direction.

Frowning, she looked over to check out the plate. It was Carter’s car.

This time, he got out and walked toward her.

When he stopped in front of her, he asked, “Did you help Louie steal that project from me?”

Rhea let out a soft chuckle. “Steal? That project was never yours to begin with. This is business. May the best team win.”

“If it weren’t for you, Mr. Dillon would never have picked Louie! Jamison Group is more powerful than Scott Group from every angle. You’re upset with me, fine. I don’t even blame you for ignoring the kids. But how could you do this?” 1

Carter’s eyes burned with anger. He became increasingly convinced that Rhea was a petty person.

To him, women were always irrational, letting their emotions cloud everything.

Lately, Rhea would bring up divorce every time she got upset, without even caring about the kids. And now she was sabotaging everything he had built from the ground up.

How had he ever thought she was gentle and virtuous?
