Chapter 410
Rhea’s detached gaze swept over the people in the hospital room, but she ignored them.
Was that… Rhea?
Mia was stunned. To be accurate, she was stunned by the way Rhea was dressed now.
Rhea used to be soft and quiet. She rarely wore makeup and dressed simply. She was still pretty then, just not as fierce and sharp as she is now.
Mia sneered inwardly. As she had thought, after moving to a big city, women would become worldly and all dolled up!
Rhea’s bodyguards were behind her, but they didn’t enter the hospital room. When she noticed that there were other people in the room, she said, “Let’s talk outside.”
Mia snorted. “Why do you need to talk outside? We’re not outsiders.”
Rhea glanced at her. “Do I know you?”
Mia bristled. “I-”
Carter cut her off. He said to Rhea, “Let’s talk outside.”
No one could’ve imagined that Carter was now so attentive to Rhea and so compliant!
Once they left the hospital room, Leah couldn’t help but say, “You need to talk some sense into Carter. How can he let Rhea string him along like that? I saw that her clothes and shoes seem to be expensive. I heard rumors that Carter’s company isn’t doing well right now. How can she help him if she keeps splurging like this?”
After the Jamison family’s fall from grace back in the day, Tyler had brought his family back to his hometown to scrape by. They never expected Carter, who was so young, to rise again. They hadn’t helped him back then, so they couldn’t bring themselves to bask in his success now.
Still, he was their way of keeping up appearances back in their hometown. Naturally, they didn’t want him to do poorly.
Tyler kept quiet. He didn’t say a single word.
…
Rhea leaned against the window in the hallway as she looked at Carter. “The kids‘ conditions have stabilized. The doctor said they can probably be discharged in another week.”
He nodded. “Yeah. And thanks for the medicine you sent over.”

She said, “Once this matter is over, I will have nothing more to do with you and the Jamison family.”
What?
Carter froze, wondering if she meant that she didn’t care about how Arielle and Adrian felt anymore. Was she going to cut all ties with him?
“I’ll always remember that they called me their mother. When they grow up, I’ll give appropriate gifts for their engagements and marriages. Outside of that, our families will be mere strangers.”
She straightened up and turned to leave.
“Rhea.” Carter’s voice was hoarse.
She stopped but didn’t turn back.
Carter said wearily, “I want to apologize for what happened in the past. I’m sorry.
To Rhea’s surprise, she faintly heard his voice catch. She wondered whether she was hearing things. Would someone like him truly own up to his mistakes?
No, he wouldn’t. He was just filled with regret because he knew that he’d lost everything.
Rhea took one step forward, and he watched her while gritting his teeth. “Is there really no chance of anything between us anymore? I can change. I can become whatever you want me to be. Do you want me to be like George? I-”
Rhea cut him off softly. “My boyfriend is waiting for me.”
With that, she left.
Carter watched her, his eyes red and brimming with tears. Suddenly, he felt an intense pain tear through his chest.
Rhea was gone. She had severed all ties with him, and she had even let go of the children she’d raised. She was going to be with another man and marry him.
How could she be so cruel? How could she just up and leave like that? That wasn’t who she was!
“Mr. Jamison!” Glen cried when he saw Carter abruptly collapse.
