“Is that so? Well, that’s good news. If it turns out well, please send us an invitation to the wedding,” Steven said politely.

Kate almost choked at those words.

She wondered why Steven was suddenly acting this way toward her. And it seemed that he actually wasn’t stopping George from marrying Rhea. Did he still not know Rhea’s involvement in Gerard’s death?

Logically, Steven’s attitude toward her should have mirrored Cynthia’s. He should have admired her and wanted her as his daughter–in–law.

Kate didn’t know what was going on.

She smiled faintly and said, “But there’s no need for me to rush. It’s already too late to go over now. I’ll send a message to reschedule. Now that George is getting engaged, I need to show some support as a friend, or at the very least, offer a little help.”

She seemed determined to stay.

Steven frowned, feeling confused and helpless.

Kate was usually a perceptive young woman. So, why was she acting so tactless now?

Cynthia took the opportunity to lead Kate into the living room. “You’re going on a date? Who’s the lucky one?”

Cynthia’s attention was clearly more on Kate’s match than on George’s engagement.

George stayed expressionless, his face unchanged the entire time.

He had always known that Cynthia cared more about Gerard. Everything he had done after Gerard’s death was ultimately an attempt to compensate for Gerard’s absence.

But that didn’t matter anymore.

He had always been a pragmatic person. Only what he held in his hands mattered. Everything else was just empty talk.

“It’s the CEO with the surname Burton. You’ve probably heard of him,” Kate replied.

Cynthia was surprised. “Oh, him? Yes, I have.”

That Burton man was young and accomplished, with an impressive track record and a clean reputation. He was indeed an ideal match.

But Cynthia still preferred Kate. Even though Kate had made many mistakes, she justified them as coming from loving George too much.

Love blinded people. So, her actions were understandable and could often elicit sympathy.

By contrast, Rhea hadn’t made a single call to Cynthia–not even to offer a brief word of concern- after everything that had happened.

Cynthia believed that with a personality like that, even if she and Rhea became in–laws, they could never truly become a family.

A once–warm home was turning cold and distant. Cynthia found it hard to accept.

“George!”

“Ms. Snider.” Maverick followed in.

Liora hurried over. “I heard you’re getting engaged. Valerie and I came to see if we could help with anything.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Snider,” Valerie greeted the elders.

The two former close friends treated Kate, who was sitting there, as if she were invisible.

George glanced at Liora. He hadn’t told her about this, which meant that Rhea had probably notified

her.

A subtle smile crept into his eyes. “You know Rhea well. Tell Maverick what she likes and make a checklist together.”

“Got it!”

George handled the engagement arrangements personally, temporarily leaving the company matters to Seamus, who had just returned to Dalea.

The living room of the Snider residence was bustling. Maverick coordinated with the maids on preparations and guest invitations, while the important guests would be personally chosen by George and Steven.

Normally, Cynthia would have handled all of this herself.

Kate stood and asked, “Do you need my help?”

Cynthia tugged her back down. “Sit.”

“There’s no need. We can handle everything,” Liora said without looking back.
