Kate spoke up. “It’s Saturday tomorrow. How about I take everyone for a spin in Draventh?”
Although they were all locals, most had spent years abroad. Even when back in Dalea, their homes weren’t in Draventh, so naturally, they weren’t very familiar with the city.
Heidi blinked. “Anywhere in Draventh means long lines or reservations.”
Kate shook her head. “Don’t worry. Tell me where you’d like to go, and I’ll take care of the arrangements. Honestly, it’s my first time starting a proper job. I still have a lot to learn, so consider this my way of giving back to all of you.”
The women on the translation team exchanged glances, then nodded in agreement.
“Thank you, Kate.”
“You’re smart and patient. I’m sure you’re quick to learn.‘
With the group now on her side, Kate went ahead and booked the restaurant for the next day while quietly anticipating how Annie would try to give Rhea trouble in the office.
Inside the office, Annie felt like she had misheard. “What?”
Rhea gave her a cool, indifferent glance. “Is there any problem with you handling this project?”
Rhea had personally brought this project proposal to Solaris Ventures. She handed it to Damian as a gesture of her commitment to working well here, though she had never intended to handle it herself.
Annie flipped through the proposal again, scanning for any hidden pitfalls. She didn’t find any.
The market research and business plan were all neatly compiled at the end of the proposal.
It was like a sentence missing only a period–Annie just needed to add a dot and sign the contract, and the company could move forward with the investment. She would basically be walking away with a high–potential project.
Bonuses were one thing, but the year–end profit share was a considerable sum.
Annie had been working in venture capital for years. She didn’t claim that she could spot a winner in every project, but she had a strategic eye.
She knew that this project had an extremely high chance of generating profit.
She couldn’t believe that Rhea was actually giving such a great project to her instead of keeping it to boost her own image.

Annie immediately suspected that it was a trap, but the data was too tempting to resist. It was like someone was offering her a slice of the pie, and she only needed to take it.
Rhea put down her pen, picked up the glass of water on the table, and leisurely said, “I know you’re not happy about me being here, but there’s no need to get upset. I won’t be here forever.”
Annie’s breath caught in her throat. She was surprised. Rhea wouldn’t be here forever?
Rhea continued honestly, “I’m here to learn and gain experience. I’ll leave sooner or later, so I don’t need flashy achievements to add to my résumé. Once you land this project, headquarters will recognize your work. When I leave, it’ll be easier for you to step up. What do you think, Ms. Levy?”
Annie asked, “But why give it to me?”
There were plenty of team leaders on the project team. So, why did Rhea choose her?
Annie doubted that she would be given such a good project for no reason. After all, she and Rhea weren’t exactly close.
Rhea’s fingers drummed lightly on the desk. “Before I arrived, I reviewed the résumés and backgrounds of everyone on the project team. Among them, I think your ability stands out the most. If it weren’t for me, this position might already have been yours.
“Consider it as a small token of apology from me. Besides, who wants a rival stronger than themselves, right?”
Annie wondered if that was a compliment.
