I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 502

Chapter 502

Kate wanted nothing more than to rip that venomous smirk off Lauren’s face to make up for the regret swallowing her whole.

However, Lauren was relentless. “What did you just say? If I heard right, you asked if I wanted to die, right? Man, that was one deafening yell. Mr. Frost, did you catch it?”

Kate, who had been clinging to the slim hope that Damian might not have heard or caught the exact words, felt her scalp prickle with dread. Lauren had repeated it on purpose!

Damian’s gaze settled on Kate. He calmly asked, “Is something wrong?”

Kate’s voice carried an obvious tremor. “No, nothing’s wrong. I just thought that Lauren might be upset after seeing the messages in the group chat. I was worried that something was wrong, so I rushed over… I’m sorry for disturbing, Mr. Frost.”

Lauren stared her down. “Do you think that everyone here’s an idiot or something?”

Kate froze.

“We’re this close to throttling each other, and you claim you’re worried about me?” Lauren snorted.

Damian rubbed his temple. “If there’s nothing wrong, you can go.”

Kate took a deep breath. “Mr. Frost, is there anything I can help with? We only have three translators on this trip, and I’d like to contribute. Sawyer asked you to look out for me, so I should step up, too.”

As she spoke, her eyes subtly flicked toward George. His tall frame was relaxed as he leaned back against the couch, one long arm draped over the armrest. His gaze was lowered toward Rhea.

Kate couldn’t help the jealousy that gnawed at her.

It was as though Kate were putting on a one–woman show. No one took the bait or responded to her.

After another 20 minutes, Rhea and Damian finalized their proposal.

“Alright. We’ll go with this,” he said.

Kate jumped in immediately. “All done, are we? I can help book a restaurant. There are some great spots around here.”

Lauren, who had been jotting down notes, froze as Kate’s interruption derailed her train of thought. She thought that Kate was like a maggot squirming into view–impossible to ignore and utterly revolting!

Lauren snapped. “Can you shut up for one second? Are you here to work, or are you moonlighting as a reporter? Or maybe you’re here on vacation. You keep asking this and that every five minutes!”
