Lauren's attitude didn't faze Vivian. Vivian simply said, "Miss, you're injured, and right now, the most important thing is to focus on your recovery. Let's be real—there's bad blood between you and Ms. Pearson. Do you really trust her to take care of you?
"Aren't you worried she might get fed up with your demands and just let go of you? Will you be able to stand on your own without someone holding you up?"
Lauren was taken aback and looked like a startled rabbit. "I've never met anyone better than me at making something nonsensical sound so logical!"
Vivian didn't know how to respond.
In the past, Kate would've loved having someone like Vivian step in to deal with a pain like Lauren. But now… Vivian worked for Sawyer. If she went back and reported everything that happened here to Sawyer, especially when there was a chance of Lauren going berserk and raving at any moment…
Kate didn't want Sawyer to hear about such a messy, embarrassing scene.
"I'll do it. You need the restroom, right?" She stepped forward.
However, Lauren dodged her hand. Vivian's words had gotten to her. What if Kate, the sneaky snake that she was, really did something spiteful? She'd ultimately be the one to suffer!
A back injury was no joke. One wrong move, and she could end up paralyzed!
"Forget it. Stay away from me for now," Lauren said, brushing Kate off.
Vivian smiled, stepped in, and carefully helped Lauren out of bed, slowly guiding her to the restroom.
The hospital room came with a couch and a coffee table. Seamus sat by the window with his eyes half-closed. His position didn't give him a view of Lauren's bed.
But now, he'd opened his eyes.
Sensing his gaze, Kate met it briefly before looking away, her expression neutral. With Vivian around, she wasn't about to lose her cool or waste energy bickering with Seamus and Lauren.
Surprisingly, Seamus didn't take the chance to needle her, either. Naturally, it wasn't because he was letting her off the hook or because Vivian was around.
It was because his current assignment was to stay in the hospital and make sure that Kate looked after Lauren. He wasn't there to pick fights with Kate.
Seamus, with his eyes still closed, spoke in a low, eerie tone. "Because she's trying to keep up appearances."
"Who's there?" Lauren almost jumped in fright. Her first instinct was to think there was a ghost in the room.
It wasn't until she belatedly realized that Seamus was keeping watch that she relaxed. "Oh, it's you, Mr. Whitfield… What did you mean by keeping up appearances?"
"She's getting cozy with that Mr. Burton, right? That assistant is one of his people, so it's natural for Kate to want to watch her image. She doesn't want him to find out that she's two-faced," Seamus explained.
Naturally, a seasoned pro like him would see right through Kate's act!
Lauren smacked her lips. She was ready to stir the pot again. She wasn't about to let Kate have it easy.
So, when Kate came back with all the breakfast she'd ordered, Lauren said, "Feed me. I can't move too much. It'll exacerbate my injury."
