Kate's cheeks flamed a striking, undeniable red.
She seemed to have made up her mind, summoning the courage to openly declare her love in front of another man who wasn't George. "Yes."
Indeed, she was proposing to Sawyer.
Whether out of envy for Rhea and George or simply because of Sawyer himself, Kate now wanted to shed all pretenses of formality and reserve and face him sincerely.
She wanted to hold on to Sawyer, the one who could stand toe-to-toe with George.
Not to mention, she had already begun to develop romantic feelings for Sawyer. And surprisingly, those feelings were growing fast.
Despite her nervousness, she didn't resent the uncontrollable surge of emotion. If anything, it brought her a quiet joy.
Perhaps Evie felt bad for her from above and had sent her such a gentle, kind man, who was so much like George and perfectly to her liking.
After saying that, Kate stepped into the kitchen to help Sawyer carry the beautifully prepared dishes to the table.
She didn't bring it up again, but her heart was uncontrollably racing.
Sawyer remained silent for a long moment.
Once they both sat at the table, he met her gaze and seemed to sense the nervousness behind it.
Kate was starting to have second thoughts. She realized that she might have been a bit impulsive and reckless just now.
Fortunately, Sawyer wasn't the kind of man to make her feel embarrassed, so he simply responded with silence.
Kate clenched her hands and forced a composed smile. "Sorry, I was a bit forward. Just forget I said—"
However, Sawyer interrupted her, his tone as gentle as always. "Isn't it usually the man who proposes?"
Her heart skipped a beat.
Kate didn't answer right away. Instead, she picked up the glass of wine he poured for her and drank it down in one steady gulp.
The warmth seared down her throat as her eyes fixed on Sawyer's face. "Thank you for accepting my past, my flaws, my dark side, and even my schemes."
And for being willing to spend the rest of his life with her.
She still couldn't bring herself to call herself cruel in front of Sawyer.
In this relationship, Kate knew one thing for certain—gratitude outweighed everything else. And it was that gratitude that ignited a rapid, fierce affection for Sawyer.
He continued to study her. "So… do you have a favorite season?"
Kate lowered her gaze. "A season isn't special on its own. It's special because of the people you experience it with."
No matter the season, being with the right person was what truly brought joy.
