I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 533

Kate didn't get angry. She smiled and said, "Lauren, I'm getting engaged next month. You have to come. We're colleagues, after all. There isn't a grudge between us that can't be resolved."

Lauren was shocked.

Surprised, Gisselle asked, "Wait, you're getting engaged? With Mr. Burton?"

Kate nodded. "Yeah, Ms. Bowman."

"Congrats!"

"Congratulations!"

One by one, everyone offered their well-wishes.

Kate smiled shyly. "I hope you all can make it."

"Of course we will!"

"Definitely!"

Lauren narrowed her eyes. It was no wonder this bitch had been walking around all morning with that smug little look. It turned out that she had found a new guy to latch on to.

She pitied Sawyer at that moment.

She ignored Kate and headed to her desk.

At lunchtime, Lauren left the office to pick up some medication. The prescription from the hospital had run out.

Struggling to move, she made her way outside as if on a slow, leisurely stroll.

Just as she reached the edge of the street, a car caught her eye. The window rolled down halfway, and Sawyer came into view.

The car stopped, and Sawyer got out alone. He instructed the driver, "Park in the ground-level lot."

"Yes, Mr. Burton."

Lauren called out, "Mr. Burton?"

Sawyer turned at the sound of her voice. Naturally, he knew who she was.

"Do you need something?" His tone was flat, betraying almost no emotion.

Lauren frowned, looking serious. "Mr. Burton, do you believe in geomancy?"

Her question came out of nowhere. Fortunately, Sawyer knew that she wasn't crazy. From past investigations, he knew that she was simply malicious, not mentally ill.

"Miss, what exactly are you trying to say?" Sawyer asked, unusually patient.

Was that why he came over to see her?

Kate smiled sweetly. "Thank you. I'll be waiting for you."

Sawyer nodded. "Go back inside."

Kate walked back to the office, turning around every few steps to glance back.

Once Sawyer got in the car, the driver started heading to the airport.

Since the car had been parked in the spot closest to the street, both the driver and Winston had overheard Lauren's shocking comment.

A while later, Sawyer suddenly asked, "Do you know any geomancers?"

Winston froze. "Mr. Burton, you…"

He wondered if Sawyer had actually believed Lauren.

Sawyer gazed out the window and let out a small laugh before mumbling, "Maybe something really is up with the family grave. Otherwise, how else can you explain all the misfortune the Burton family has had over the years?"

Winston was speechless for a moment. "...I'll ask around!"
