I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 544

Sawyer always supported Kate's wishes. He truly indulged her in every way.

She was also glad to finally be part of Sawyer's life. In a way, they were already half a family, with few secrets left between them.

Kate suggested meeting Sylvia partly as a test.

She wasn't a teenage girl. She sensed that a man who was emotionally stable was either incapable of love or possessed a deeper complexity to his character.

To understand Sawyer fully, she had to touch what or whom he cared about the most. Fortunately, he didn't resist.

Kate was pleased that she had found a man who, in her eyes, grew more exceptional by the day.

Over the weekend, Kate personally delivered her engagement invitations to her old friends.

When she visited their homes, the families of Valerie, Liora, Evelyn, and Carolyn didn't turn her away. After all, as elders, they couldn't be too harsh.

After that, only the Ravelle and Snider families remained.

Kate smiled as she approached the Snider residence.

Cynthia greeted her warmly. "It's been so long. I thought you had forgotten me."

She seemed to have forgotten any past tensions. She even instructed the maids to prepare Kate's favorite pastries.

"Mrs. Snider, don't trouble yourself," Kate said, helping Cynthia to sit. "I'm here to deliver an invitation."

"Invitation?"

"I'm getting engaged," Kate replied, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Cynthia's smile froze. "Engaged? To whom? I didn't hear a single word about it."

That evening, George returned home. He only came home every two weeks to have dinner with his family.

At the table, Steven asked him about the company, how George and Rhea were getting along, and whether he had upset Liam.

His concern was meticulous.

Cynthia's expression darkened. "If I didn't know better, I'd think that my son had become a live-in son-in-law."

Steven frowned. "What do you mean? As his father, I'm just reminding him to get along with the Ravelles. It's for the future."

"What's the point? She's no good. They've been engaged for a long time, and Rhea hasn't once come by to visit us. Is that her way of showing she's unhappy with me?

"If she had any sense, she would understand that George is caught in the middle, but she just does whatever she wants, never thinking of others. Even Kate knew enough to advise me to accept Rhea. Some people just don't compare."

Cynthia lost her appetite, so she put down her cutlery.
