Cynthia quickly told Kate her location over the phone, "I'm at Draventh Sixth Hospital.
"Thank you, Kate! I'm really touched. We'll discuss the details in person. Just don't tell anyone, okay?
"Got it! Okay! I'll be waiting for you!"
Cynthia clutched the phone, her face flushed with excitement.
After ending the call, she deleted Kate's number. "Thank you, Sylvia."
Sylvia took back her phone. "There's no need to thank me. Since we're both stuck in this place, it only makes sense to help each other out."
"The young lady I called is just like you—kind and gentle. When she arrives, I'll introduce you to her. I think you'll really like her," Cynthia said, smiling.
It had been nearly two weeks since she arrived, and this was the first time Cynthia finally allowed herself to relax and smile.
During this period, she had also been quietly observing Sylvia. It seemed that Sylvia wasn't particularly close to Madison. They just had the usual doctor-and-patient relationship.
"Can you make sure that Madison doesn't find out about my call?" Cynthia asked.
Sylvia looked confused. "What does Dr. Morrow have to do with this?"
Cynthia froze for a moment. "Right, she has nothing to do with this, so she doesn't need to know."
As expected, a patient's mind was easy to work with. There was no need to waste many words explaining anything.
…
Three days later, Kate arrived at Draventh Sixth Hospital.
When Sylvia heard the news, she had just finished preparing a box of pastries. She had made them with care. It was her specialty back in the day.
After packing them neatly in a beautiful box, Sylvia went to see Cynthia, accompanied by Mikayla.
Cynthia's door no longer needed to stay locked around the clock.
Cynthia quickly released Kate and wiped her tears. "Sylvia, let me introduce you. This is a friend of my son, Kate Pearson. And this is Sylvia Burton. She's been taking care of me here."
Kate was stunned for a moment. "Ms. Burton, it's nice to meet you."
Sylvia smiled warmly. "Ms. Pearson, it's a pleasure. You really are a delightful young woman, just as I'd heard."
"You flatter me," Kate said, then hesitated before asking, "May I ask how you spell your surname?"
Sylvia replied, "B-U-R-T-O-N."
Kate nodded. It was the same surname as Sawyer.
"I heard from Mrs. Snider that you were coming, so I specially made some pastries as a small gift. I hope you like it, Ms. Pearson." Sylvia handed over the box of pastries.
Kate accepted them. "Thank you so much. I came in such a hurry, and I didn't know that Mrs. Snider had made a friend here. I'll be sure to bring something in return next time."
"It's fine. You two should talk. I'll leave you to it," Sylvia said, turning to leave.
