The next day was Kate's engagement party.
The top two floors of Draventh's most prestigious hotel had been fully reserved, with a total of 66 tables set up.
Guests arrived with generous gifts and envelopes.
A red carpet stretched all the way from the entrance of the hall to the stage inside.
Rhea arrived last, accompanied by George.
When it came to matters of appearances, George never faltered. If he did, people who couldn't stand to see the Ravelle and Snider families in harmony might start whispering behind Liam's back about having a petty son-in-law.
George wasn't about to let his future father-in-law be judged over something so trivial.
Liora and Valerie had also shown up with their husbands, and everyone sat together at the same table.
As soon as Evelyn took her seat, she said, "This hall looks so familiar."
It really did because the setup for this engagement party was almost an exact copy of Rhea's own party.
Anyone would feel annoyed if their ideas were blatantly copied for such an important event.
However, Rhea didn't seem to mind. She chatted with George as if nothing were wrong.
Valerie frowned. "God damn it."
Liora clenched her teeth. "Why does she have to be so annoying? She was perfectly fine when she was a child."
Zayne comforted her, "Don't think too hard about it. Perhaps she was always like this and was just good at pretending."
"She really was," Evelyn muttered, pursing her lips.
They had all been fooled!
…
At that moment, by the side entrance of the hall, Kate had just finished a phone call and was heading back to the hall when someone called out to her.
She turned around, surprised. "It's you?"
Sylvia was wearing a bodycon dress that looked almost exactly like hers.
Apart from minor differences in the neckline, the dresses were practically identical.
Kate's expression darkened. She definitely didn't like ending up in the same outfit as someone else for an occasion like this.
Suddenly, she remembered a message from Cynthia, which mentioned that a friend would bring her to the engagement party. Could that friend be Sylvia?
Kate didn't mind Cynthia, but Sylvia wasn't exactly welcome.
Kate blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Sylvia looked at her seriously. "Why do you love him?"
Instinctively, Kate answered, "He's young, successful, kind, dutiful, and rational. No one wouldn't like him."
"Then why him, specifically?" Sylvia asked, genuinely curious.
Kate felt a twinge of unease. "Sorry, I have to go."
She thought that Sylvia was genuinely crazy and figured that talking to her would just be a waste of time. So, she believed that it was better to stay away from her.
Kate turned to leave, but Sylvia suddenly grabbed her wrist. "Ms. Pearson, why did you choose this dress for your engagement party?"
Kate's patience snapped. Her gaze went cold. "Please let go, Ms. Burton. I have things to do."
"You haven't answered me yet. Leaving now seems a little rude, doesn't it?"
Kate couldn't hold back any longer. She tried to pull her hand away, but couldn't. She immediately snapped, "Are you crazy?"
Sylvia's expression remained calm as she replied, "Yes. Didn't you know?"
Kate clenched her teeth, barely restraining her anger. "Then go get help, will you?"
