After it was clear she could never be with George, Kate simply dropped all pretenses.
Since Cynthia couldn't become her mother-in-law, Kate no longer saw any use in her and disregarded her like a complete stranger.
Kate didn't even look at Cynthia. Her frown made it clear that she wasn't welcoming Sylvia at all.
Cynthia bristled with anger.
Kate was really…
"Sylvia, let's go," Cynthia said, grabbing Sylvia's hand and tossing the unused invitation to the ground. "If I'd known she wouldn't welcome us, I wouldn't have come."
Kate parted her lips to speak.
But by this point, there was nothing she could do except have Cynthia hurry off with Sylvia. So, she didn't try to stop her.
"Mrs. Snider, I'll explain everything to you later. I'm too busy today. I'm terribly sorry." Kate still attempted to keep up appearances.
Her words, however, effectively confirmed that she was fine with them leaving.
Cynthia felt nothing but irony.
She recalled what Kate had said earlier. It was true—she didn't like Rhea, but that didn't mean that she would let Kate get away.
Cynthia stopped in her tracks and stared at Kate, her gaze icy. "By the way, I have the same question Sylvia does. When I arrived, you said that Rhea had agreed to let me come out for some fresh air. Care to explain? Where did you get that from?"
Kate's smile stiffened. "Mrs. Snider, this isn't the time to discuss that. My engagement party is about to start. You—"
"Drop the act," Sylvia cut in.
Kate's expression went completely cold.
At the same time, Connor's expression shifted as well.
What did Cynthia just call that woman? Sylvia?
That name…
Mikayla entered from the entrance. She pulled out the digital tablet she had brought and played the secretly recorded footage.
There were already quite a few onlookers, and everyone immediately saw Kate in the video. She threw a small gift box into the trash, then brushed her hands off as if she had touched something dirty.
But that wasn't the end of it. In the video, Kate mumbled, "Who would eat something made by a mental patient?"
Even though her voice was faint and distant, the surrounding area was so quiet that every single word she spoke came through crystal clear.
In an instant, all the ladies of high society looked at Kate disdainfully.
One might hesitate to eat something made by someone with a mental illness, but Kate's public image was nothing like that.
Clearly, she was two-faced!
"Don't you slander my daughter!" Connor immediately shouted.
He looked at Sylvia with a mix of disgust and fear. "Take them out! No strangers are allowed here!"
