The banquet hall suddenly fell silent.
Tears streamed down Kate's face as she said, "Mrs. Snider, what have I done to wrong you? I've already lost my mom, and today is one of the most important days of my life. Do you have to ruin it like this? I've already let go of my issues with Rhea. Why are you doing this to me?"
She cried, heartbroken and utterly aggrieved.
Some of the guests, unfamiliar with the full story, instinctively wanted to believe Kate. After all, her reputation had always been strong.
Cynthia had completely lost it. Could anything she said be trusted?
She was a respectable lady, yet she had ruined Kate's engagement party.
Cynthia watched Kate, who with just a few words had made herself appear like the victim, and felt her chest tighten with frustration.
"Why do this to you?" A voice suddenly cut through.
Sylvia slowly pulled down her mask.
"Of course it's because your father's vicious too. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
Connor nearly lost his footing when he saw Sylvia's face.
It really was her…
He didn't know what she was planning to do.
Connor panicked. "Quick! Call the police! These two crazy women can't stay here!"
"Exactly. Any issues can be handled privately. Don't ruin Kate's engagement party," someone chimed in.
Others nodded in agreement. "What's more important than an engagement?"
Sylvia, holding back the intense pain inside her, spoke with clarity.
"The Mr. Pearson you see before you forced a female student to sleep with him years ago. When she refused, he threatened to expel her. Isn't that important?"
"What?"
"What did she just say?"
"What's going on?"
The crowd stirred.
Connor had asked someone to call the police earlier. When they arrived, they happened to hear Sylvia's words.
As a result, Kate was now in the hospital while Connor was taken to the station for questioning.
The moment Kate opened her eyes, she saw Sawyer sitting beside the bed, watching her. His gaze was unfathomable.
Tears immediately fell from her eyes. Her voice was hoarse as she said, "Sawyer, I'm sorry…"
Sawyer finally reacted.
For the past two hours, he had sat silently, watching Kate pretend to faint. She really was persistent and patient.
Sawyer looked puzzled. "Sorry for what?"
Kate opened her mouth but didn't know where to start. How could she even talk about Connor's shameful past?
She bit her lip and said, "The engagement party was ruined, and my dad was slandered. I'm really sorry. But don't worry. I trust my dad's character. He wouldn't do something like that."
Kate decided to pretend she didn't know about Connor's vile past deeds.
Sawyer suddenly smiled.
