I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 93

Chapter 93

Lauren couldn’t believe that she was the one being asked to leave. She quickly pointed at Rhea and said, We know each other. She’s the one who should leave.

Theodore glanced in the direction she was pointing. When he saw that she was pointing at Rhea, he only felt that this woman must be insane.

Didn’t Amber verify her identity?

That’s Ms. Ravelle, one of our goldtier members.

Lauren froze when she heard that.

A goldtier member of Crown Mansion?

She figured that George must have gone out of his way to support Rhea.

Lauren’s face twisted. I really don’t get this place. You judge people by their bank accounts, fine. But you’re actually siding with a woman like her, who is unfaithful in her marriage?

Her words didn’t even make sense now. However, Nathan caught on. She was talking to him.

Based on what Carter and Lauren said, they clearly assumed Rhea had invited him just to keep up appearances.

This was nothing but an attempt to drive a wedge between Carter and Rhea. Lauren was even pinning a baseless accusation on her.

Nathan suddenly chuckled and told Theodore, You can go.

Theodore didn’t quite understand what was going on, but he knew better than to ask questions. He quietly stepped away.

As the private room door closed, the dazzling light from the crystal chandelier spilled over everyone inside.

Nathan smiled. Please, sit.

Carter glanced at Rhea. He was still pissed, but he knew that it wasn’t the time to lash out. As he sat down, Lauren slid into the seat right next to him.

The two sat side by side openly. Nathan’s gaze shifted from simmering anger to a smile that ran far too deep.Very well,he thought.

Rhea didn’t even know what to say. The last thing she wanted was for her family to see just how far she had fallen, but Carter insisted on dragging it all out into the open.

Mr. Ravelle, I apologize for my wife’s behavior. I’ll make sure that she learns some proper manners. I’ll drink this as an apology.Carter downed the wine he had poured himself in one gulp.

With that, he said, We won’t interrupt your meal any further and take our leave.

Without waiting for a response, he grabbed Rhea’s arm and started pulling her toward the door.

Lauren hurried after them.

Out in the hallway, Rhea yanked her arm free. She didn’t want her personal matters to become a spectacle in Draventh, bringing unnecessary judgment or gossip upon her parents.

Carter!

Rhea!he barked, his eyes wild with anger. Even if you’re desperate to make yourself look good, did you really have to drag Nathan into it and pretend that he’s family? What, does sharing the same last name make you feel proud? Do you even know who he is?

Rhea met his eyes. Of course I do. He’s my brother. You said you wanted to meet my family. My parents were busy, so I brought my brother. You’ve met him now. Can we finally move on and file for divorce?

Carter froze at those words.

Even Lauren was stunned into silence.

But five seconds later, Carter let out a laugh. He pointed at Rhea, looking utterly exasperated. Rhea, have you no shame? Are you seriously telling me a lie like that?

Lauren jumped in, saying, Rhea, please stop. If Mr. Ravelle hears that, it could seriously hurt Carter’s career. You and Mr. Ravelle come from completely different worlds. Even if you’re trying to spite Carter, couldn’t you at least pick someone more believable?

Who would believe that? Who would believe that Nathan was Rhea’s brother?

Well, not Carter.

If Rhea were really Nathan’s sister, that would make her the heiress of one of the most powerful families in Draventh. How could someone with a background like that choose to be a stepmother?

Carter also thought it was impossible that Rhea would cut ties with her family, as only a fool would do something like that.

She couldn’t even keep her own story straight. Who was she expecting to believe her?

Carter couldn’t take it anymore. I can tolerate your temper, but I won’t tolerate this level of vanity. I don’t think there’s a need for me to meet your family anymore. You want a divorce? Fine. Give me the baby when it’s born, and I’ll sign the papers.

His gaze was icecold as he turned and walked off with Lauren.

Rhea stood there alone, suddenly feeling a chill from the air conditioning.
