Invisible to My First Love (Harper and Maddox) novel Chapter 104

Harper

As soon as my vision adjusted to the view of my bedroom ceiling, I dropped my head to the side, reaching for my phone. I didn’t even have to check the time to know that I’d woken up a bit later than usual. I needed as much sleep as I could get since I’d gone to bed late the previous night. That was why I’d put my phone on silent.

When I turned on my phone screen, the first thing that caught my attention was the time. It was almost 9 AM and right on the lower part of the screen were so many notifications of all the calls I’d missed.

I unlocked my phone to check out the call logs and it was just Ella and Zoey calling me several times two hours earlier.

I chuckled as I remembered them gushing over Uncle Sebastian the previous day when I’d sent them those pictures I’d taken with him.

A smile lingered on my lips as I scrolled further down the call logs but then, I froze when I came across one particular call I’d missed from Grayson around 6 AM. Just seeing it made my stomach twist in the old familiar way. I hesitated as my thumb hovered over the name. For a second, I actually felt awful that I’d missed his call and I wanted to call him back.

Just before I could click, I reminded myself to stick to the plan. I needed to keep some boundaries and in order for that to work, there was no going back. It didn’t matter how hard it was. It needed to happen.

And with that in mind, I put down my phone, took a deep breath and got out of bed with a long stretch, which carried on even as I made my way to the bathroom. The idea of a hot bath got me a little excited. I needed it.

As the water began to fill the tub, I grabbed my phone again and simultaneously called Ella and Zoey. They picked up within seconds, Ella being the first to speak.

“Finally!”

I grinned. “Good morning to you, too. I missed so many of your calls. What’s up?”

Zoey cleared her throat. “Do you think it’s possible to meet him?”

“Meet who?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I sat on the edge of my bed.

“Come on,” Ella huffed. “Uncle Sebastian!”

“Right.” I chuckled with a light nod.

“I’m only speaking for myself here. I can’t stop staring at those pictures you sent yesterday. That man is-”

“Delicious!” Zoey finished. “He looks so much sexier than he did the time we saw him at your boyfriend’s birthday party. Those pictures you sent also made it seem like he smells so good.”

I rolled my eyes with a silent groan. They’d told me all the things they thought about him the previous day, but it seemed they just weren’t ready to let it go yet.

“He definitely smelled so good yesterday,” I said.

“What a fine soon–to–be divorced man he is,” Zoey said. “Can you imagine him tonight at the charity ball? He’s gonna be in a suit and whatever color won’t even matter. When he looks like that, everything looks good!”

I could only raise my eyebrows with my jaw dropped as I didn’t even know what to say.

“Listen up,” Ella said, her tone now a little serious. “If you don’t take at least one picture of him tonight in his suit, we’re going to end this friendship.”

I rolled my eyes with a smile. “Seriously?”

“Speaking of the ball,” Zoey cut in, “Is everything in place for you?”

“Yeah, my dress is steamed and my hair appointment is right on time. I’m all good.”

“I know Maddox saw you in that dress when he took you shopping, but he’ll still be blown away by your entire look!” she squealed.

“That’s right!” Ella added. “And it doesn’t matter which heels you’re going to pair with the dress. Everything’s gorgeous.”

I should’ve been just as hyped as they were, but I sighed with a pout. “You know, I haven’t yet given him back his gold card.”

Ella gasped. “Don’t give it back to him until he mentions it. That way, we can spend as much money as we want.”

“Yeah,” Zoey chimed in. “We should go shopping for some handbags next time!”

I chuckled while shaking my head because I knew they didn’t mean any of it and I confirmed it when Ella changed her tone to sound a little more serious.

“Maybe this is a test to see if Harper’s a gold digger or something.”

“Aww, of course you’d say that,” Zoey chuckled softly. “You wouldn’t think he’s testing you because he’s so in love and would never do that to you.”
