Invisible to My First Love (Harper and Maddox) novel Chapter 116

Chapter 116

Grayson

Harper hadn’t been picking up my calls and I refused to believe that she’d seen my name flash on the screen several times and just chose to ignore the call.

When I called her one more time and she still didn’t answer, I decided to get her attention another way. It was the best way to get a response out of her. I hated that I was about to tell that lie, but it was the only way to find out if she was actually just ignoring me.

A few seconds after I sent her a text about Anna, she called me back, making me chuckle with satisfaction as I nodded to myself.

“Finally got your attention, huh?” I said to myself as I watched her name flash on my screen.

Clearing my throat to compose myself, I finally picked up.

“Hey,” I said softly.

“Hey, you…you really spoke to my sister?” Her voice was loud from the other end of the line.

I pressed my lips together just so I could hold in my laugh. She sounded desperate, hopeful and excited. It was then that I decided to keep building up on that lie. How could I stop when she was finally right where I wanted her after she’d been acting like she could fight what she felt for me?

“Yeah, I spoke to her,” I said. “I was actually close to your place so I could tell you in person all about my time with her, but I figured you were busy since you didn’t pick up my calls. I’m about to head home now.”

“No! Please don’t go.”

Fuck, the softness of her voice felt so good that I smirked.

“I have so much to tell you about her but we can’t talk over the phone. I already have an incoming work call.”

“Please, come back.”

I could imagine her puppy eyes as she asked me that.

“You’re sure you’re not busy?” I asked, like that was actually going to make a difference.

“I really want to hear all about my sister. Nothing else matters right now and you know that. Please don’t go.”

And just like that, I was already on my way to her place so I could make her cling to me.

I might’ve enjoyed the fact that talking about Anna had gotten her attention, but it bothered me that had it not been for that lie, she wouldn’t have spoken to me. It also pissed me off just imagining her looking down at her screen and not picking up my calls despite knowing that it’s me.

It only took a minute to get to her place and when I arrived, she was already outside, dressed in a tank top and

some high waist jeans. Her curves were on full display for me and I licked my bottom lip. I hadn’t seen that figure in person for a while.

Just when I parked my car in the driveway, she rushed over to the driver’s seat with a bright expression as she waited for me.

When I stepped out, I gave her a warm smile as I held out my arm for her. I had just given her an open invitation for a hug as a greeting and she immediately held me tightly with a delightful chuckle.

“I really couldn’t believe it when I first read your text!” she admitted, snuggling in my chest.

“You better believe it.”

Her grip around me tightened with each passing second and she had no idea when I smiled at her that it was because I had won. I wanted her to cling to me just as she did at that moment. It had been such a long time since I’d seen her like that around me and I didn’t want it to end right there. I had already begun with the lie and there was no harm in taking it a bit further.
