Chapter 17
Maddox
I was on my way to Grayson and Tiffany’s residence so we could leave together for the stupid family lunch. I couldn’t wait for the hours to go by quickly.
It was still only because of my father that I was even showing up. He had never made anything sound so urgent and that made me believe he had something important to say.
Just to forget about what else I would have to deal with at the estate, the post about Harper came to my mind again.
I thought it was just too easy that Tiffany did nothing more after that day she found Harper at my place and received that hard slap.
I had gotten off the phone with Harper right before I drove to Grayson’s residence. She didn’t say much about the post and even sounded cool, almost too cool, apart from that sore throat.
But to me, it felt like she was hiding a fire behind each word.
It wasn’t even a surprise because I had seen it first hand. She was always so calm and collected but when fucking me, she was different.
My mind drifted back to last night. The way she raised her leg to expose her pussy to me. The way I leaned back on that couch and watched her bounce her ass while my cock was inside of her and the way her tongue and mouth felt in the shower when she got on her knees.
She was all I could think about while I was out of town for two weeks. It was for this reason that I went straight to her house when I returned. It was worth it. I had never been like that with anyone before.
While I was still thinking about her, there was an incoming call and I looked over. It was Kate’s name on the caller ID. I focused on the road again, telling myself I’d call her back later. But that wasn’t the first time I was doing that.
As I arrived at the Ford estate, the iron gates opened and I drove my car along the perfectly manicured driveway. This was my sister and her husband’s home and it wasn’t that impressive, at least not to me.
I stepped out of the car and the butler was already by the front doors.
“Good afternoon, Mr Aldridge,” he greeted me with a bow.
1 gave a slight nod and made my way inside, already looking at my surroundings. Even with the smell of fresh lilies in the air and my black shoes blending in with the marble floors, it still wasn’t to my taste.
“Mr. and Mrs. Ford will be down shortly,” the butler added as he gestured towards one of the living rooms.
I didn’t even take a seat, but instead stood by the window and shoved my hands in the pockets of my suit as I glanced at the beautiful garden outside.
I found myself thinking about Harper again and the way she looked at me last night. I was both her ruin and her release. There was something I was yet to tell her and imagining her reaction already made me eager to say it, but I wanted it to be in person.
It was only when Tiffany’s voice echoed with an annoying laughter along with her heels that my thoughts were interrupted.
“No, Kate, I’m telling you, she’s probably in bed, her pillow soaked in her tears. I mean, just look at those pictures. Yikes!”
She said it all without a care in the world.
When I turned slowly, she was making her way down the stairs, a little overdressed for lunch, but that was Tiffany and it didn’t come as a surprise.
Even as her eyes met mine, she focused on her conversation with Kate.
“I’m glad that the people in the comments can confirm that it’s really her in those pictures. Some people refuse to believe it because she looks like some goddess now. Anyway I’ll call you later. He’s here.”
Her voice was a little quiet towards the end, like she was suggesting something to Kate, but I paid no attention to it.
As soon as she hung up, she said, “how do I look?”
“Overdressed,” I said flatly.
“And yet I still look so good!” She checked herself out. “I thought I’d find you with a drink in hand or something.”
“I’m good.”
She began to talk about how much she spent on her outfit and I watched her closely. She was beautiful and styled to perfection but there was something rotten underneath all of it.
“Why are you looking at me like there is a stain on my dress or something?” she asked, her eyes narrowed.
“It’s got nothing to do with your dress.” I slightly tilted my head. “I’m just wondering why you had to post that about Harper.”
“Oh, that thing?” She smirked with amusement as she walked past me. “You make it sound like I did the worst thing in the history of mankind. Come on. It wasn’t a big deal, just some old photos. She’s been through
worse,
Following behind her, I said, “Is that why you were on the phone, laughing about it with Kate?”
She turned to face me, raising her eyebrows. “I remember the days when you called her Clingy Harper. That’s all she was, someone you made fun of, so is this you defending her? And don’t you remember what she did to me? She slapped me a-”
“That’s because you disrespected her family and you know it.”
“It doesn’t matter what you say. She’s not some innocent victim. She threw herself at you two weeks ago.”
I smacked my lips and leaned against the wall, realising she did all this with that old image in mind. She still had no idea that I slept with Harper again and it left me with a few questions.
“What is it?” she asked, as if picking up on my reaction.
“It’s nothing.”
She didn’t ask anything further but only said something about forgetting to pack her lipstick, so she made her way back upstairs.
Right when she turned at the corner, Grayson appeared, making his way down while adjusting the watch on his wrist. Just the person I was looking for.
“Didn’t mean to keep you waiting,” he said after getting past the bottom stair.
“I haven’t been here too long.”
I watched him closely, waiting for him to bring up the topic first, but he seemed to choose silence.
It was for this reason that I pushed myself off the wall and approached him, my voice low when I spoke.
“So… you didn’t tell her.”

I needed a minute before I could get to my car, once again reminding myself that I needed to wear a fake smile at my father’s residence since I was going to spend the afternoon there.
