Harper
I should’ve known it wasn’t over when Tiffany’s efforts to further expose me during Maddox’s birthday had failed. What I didn’t expect was how she had decided to strike back.
It turned out the company I worked for, DataSphere Solutions, was one of the companies that belonged to Maddox and she used that to her advantage.
She had made another post and this time, it was aimed at exposing the fact that I was sleeping with the boss and it I had lots of people talking about it.
“I never say this enough, but my brother, Maddox Aldridge, was destined to be a leader. Just look at him, running several companies at the same time. Honestly, it wouldn’t be possible without his most loyal employee, Harper Moore. She’s always by his side in his office and even in his bedroom. That’s some constant dedication right there!”
I was so shocked by it that I constantly paced while on the phone with Maddox after reading the post.
“I’ve been working for you all along?” I asked.
He sighed. “Not exactly.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I stopped in my tracks.
“When did you join the company?”
“Three months ago. When will this come to an end?”
“Sleeping with me definitely doesn’t help,” he said casually.
I shook my head with disapproval like he could see me. “You sound like you’re finding humor in this.”
“Right now, I am. You and I have never met or fucked in an office”
“That’s what grabbed your attention? How did she find out where I work? I only told Grayson and then…” I trailed off at the realization.
“There it is,” he said from the other end of the line.
I huffed, taking a seat. “In what context would he even tell her about where I work?”
“You’re asking the wrong person.”
“What I don’t understand is when I first mentioned DataSphere Solutions to Grayson, he never said anything about you being the CEO…unless he didn’t know.”
He chuckled. “I like it when you show me how smart you are sometimes. Let me guess, you’re worried that this might affect your job, but here’s what you’re going to do. Relax your pretty ass while I take care of this.”
My eyes narrowed. “Why do you sound like you have the perfect solution to this?”
“That’s because I do.” He sounded confident.
As soon as the call came to an end, I dropped my head hard onto my pillow, wondering what he was going to do about it. He sounded too calm.
I knew I shouldn’t have done it, but I checked Tiffany’s post again and it had everyone talking, others even confirming that I was really sleeping with Maddox Aldridge because apart from the photos and videos, they’d seen me at the party going upstairs with him. How could he possibly fix that?
I got on the phone with Ella and Zoey and they were so worried about me that they even wanted to cancel their date with the Barclay twins, but I wasn’t going to let them. While it was too soon to judge, things seemed to be going well for them and I wanted them to enjoy it while it lasted.
All I could do was wait for Maddox and I hated the way I felt helpless.
Grayson
On the day Harper had told me the company she worked for, I had no idea it belonged to Maddox. I’d casually told Tiffany about it a few days ago. She could’ve told me that her brother owned it, but why would she? It was the perfect set up for her to strike back.
Not only was I fuming that she’d gone to such lengths to expose Harper, it was also because we had talked about that and yet she was still doing the same old thing.
I was on my way back from the office. Good thing I wasn’t driving myself. Otherwise, I would’ve crashed into something.
I called Tiffany several times, but she didn’t pick up, like she knew what I was going to ask her. I sent her several messages, not even getting a single reply.
The constant back–and–forth, I couldn’t take it anymore.
While I didn’t like the fact that Harper was fucking Maddox, the last thing I wanted was for her to be exposed like that no matter how much I now hated the guy.
I could only imagine what she was going through and wanted to check up on her, so I called and when she picked up, she sounded so calm.
“Hey.”
I furrowed my eyebrows. “Hey, you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good.” She was chewing something.
“Have you seen the post?”
She swallowed. “Yup.”
“Sooo…”
She forced a chuckle. “Sooo what?”
“Do you know how much that’s a bad look for you?”
“I know, but Maddox told me he’ll take care of it.”
“Maddox…” My jaw clenched.
“Yeah.”
“Is that why you sound so unbothered?”
“All I can do is wait.”
I sighed. “I actually thought you’d jump in the comments or something.”
“Look…” she trailed off like she didn’t believe me. “There have been too many times where I’ve held on to the hope that you’ll do something and well, you did nothing. That’s why I’m not getting my hopes up this time as well.”
She pushed her hair back so hard that I thought she’d pull it out. “How the fuck did I not know about this? I had a perfect plan and Maddox fucking ruined everything!”
My jaw clenched. “That’s exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. You lied to me.”
“Did you hear what I said?” I sat next to her.
“He did? How?”
