Invisible to My First Love (Harper and Maddox) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Harper

Maddox led me through the front door again and when we turned at the corner and made our way towards the living room, my chest tightened at the sight of Tiffany, sitting on the couch with her legs crossed.

Right next to her was Grayson and God, he looked unbelievably attractive in that suit. Even after everything he’d said and done, seeing him again and so close, made my heart flutter.

My gaze then shifted back to Tiffany when she chuckled mockingly, heat instantly rising in my cheeks as I was fuming. I wanted to charge towards her and punch her right in the face, even though I knew I couldn’t even do that. The thought of it already made me clench my fist and I would have done it with both hands if not for Maddox holding onto the other one.

He felt me squeeze his hand and immediately squeezed mine back. I looked up at him and he subtly shook his head, telling me to stay calm.

I even thought he and I should just go another way, but no. This was exactly what needed to happen. I needed to show her that she’d never see me break down the way I did last time. I had already bawled my eyes out until my tears dried up.

As I led the way, she tilted her head to the side with narrowed eyes, like she was wondering what I was about to do.

They both rose to their feet and began to approach us, Grayson getting closer to whisper something to her.

Afterwards, he cleared his throat and said, “It’s good to see you, Harp.”

He had the nerve to act like he hadn’t lashed out at me several times and that should’ve upset me, but it didn’t. Maybe it was because I was with Maddox but he spoke to me first and that made me feel special even when I knew I wasn’t.

I only managed to smile, unable to say anything in return as I didn’t have anything nice to say.

When we were close enough to each other, Tiffany paid no attention to me as she focused on her brother.

“New suit?” she said like she was impressed.

“Yup,” Maddox bragged, his hand resting on my hip.

As Tiffany admitted she was jealous and demanded to know who the designer was, Grayson took in the sight of me from head to toe with a blank expression. And then, it was only for a second, but it was enough for me to catch the crack in his expression when his gaze lingered on my cinched waist. It made my heart flutter like a fucking idiot and I nearly smiled.

But everything changed the moment he pulled her closer and held her by the waist in an intimate way. I tried so hard not to stare at him, but how could I not when my broken heart was still longing for him?

“I still can’t believe dad invited you for lunch so soon,” Tiffany finally locked her eyes on mine with a look of disgust, her expression softening when she looked at her brother. “It’s been so long since you brought a date that he thought he’d better be quick before you get bored and move on. I wasn’t even surprised when I heard that dad was behind all this. It can never be mom, knowing what she knows about this bi-”

“Don’t you fucking dare,” Maddox warned her.

“You better watch the way you talk to my wife,” Grayson cut in to warn Maddox.
