Kneeling for a Second Chance (Sebastian and Valeria) novel Chapter 214

Chapter 214

Valeria made a phone call to Margaret.

Margaret was coughing, so Valeria asked if she had taken her medicine.

Margaret said that she had and that she was already feeling much better.

Valeria wanted to rush back, but Margaret stopped her. The weather hasn’t been good these days. It suddenly turned cold. Why would you come back now? Didn’t we agree you’d only come back after resigning? It’s only a few more days.

Margaret added, It’s just my old lung disease.

Valeria urged her to get some more rest.

Margaret laughed warmly and said that she would. Then, she told Valeria that she would be waiting at home.

Slate City was in the north. After hanging up, Margaret looked out at the sun. Despite the cold snap, today’s sun was bright. People her age loved basking in the sun.

Most of her neighbors had already moved away.

Margaret leaned on her cane and slowly stepped outside.

Just then, a car drove slowly into the alley and stopped not far from her home.

Though Margaret didn’t know much about luxury cars, the white sedan before her was obviously expensive. She wondered whose guest it might be.

A middleaged woman got out. She was fashionably dressed and wearing sunglasses. She looked around, scanning her surroundings, and her gaze fell on Margaret. Then, she slowly removed her glasses.

Margaret didn’t recognize her and asked who she was looking for.

The woman walked up to Margaret.

GraceMargaret suddenly trembled in shock. Her voice was full of disbelief. Grace, is that you?”

Wendy’s face was cold. She reached into her bright orange Kelly bag and took out a bank card, handing it over. This place is going to be demolished. There’s one million dollars on this card. Take Melvin’s daughter and leave. Start over somewhere else.

Riri is your daughter, too. It’s been 26 years. You’ve been gone for 26 years,Margaret

choked out.

She’s not my daughter. If you hadn’t forced me, I would have gotten rid of her long ago. How could I possibly give Melvin children? She tossed the card onto the ground. Whether you want it or not is up to you, but we’ll never see each other again.

If not for the Davidson Group’s redevelopment project here, Wendy would never have returned. This place was where she grew up and also where she felt nothing but hatred.

Margaret said, Grace, your father was still thinking of you when he passed

You ruined me. I’ll never forget that.Wendy turned around, got into her car, and sped away

As she left, her gaze briefly landed on the tall tree beside the house. Its branches, bare from winter, stretched beyond the courtyard walls.

Margaret had finally seen her longlost daughter again. How could she bear to let her

daughter go? She had thought she’d never see Grace again in her life.

She chased after the car on her cane. The road was slick with ice during winter. She fell heavily to the ground, and her face turned pale.

She murmured, Grace

The next evening, Valeria showered and was just about to sleep when she learned that Margaret had suffered a fracture.

The call came from the hospital.

They were quite vague with their words, so she didn’t know how Margaret was at that moment.
