Chapter 233

Jennifer stepped forward and grabbed Valeria’s hand. The kettle Valeria was carrying slipped from her grip, crashing to the ground. Scalding hot water splashed onto Jennifer’s leg, making her yelp and jump back before shoving Valeria.

“Jane, you wretched woman! How dare you hit me!”

Valeria staggered, nearly falling backward.

Suddenly, her back collided with a man’s chest. A pair of hands steadied her at the waist.

Valeria’s pupils widened sharply.

Behind her, she felt the weight of the man’s breath, deep and uneven from his chest. The air

carried a cold, familiar scent.

Her blood froze, and her fingertips began to tingle.

Jennifer’s eyes shifted to the bag slung across Valeria’s chest. “Is Margaret’s bank card with you?”

She reached out and grabbed the bag, but before she could even touch it, Sebastian’s hand clamped down on hers.

She cried out in pain. “He hit me! A doctor hit me!”

Two nurses rushed over at the sound, calling out, “Dr. Grant!”

Then, they turned to glare at Jennifer. “Don’t make false claims. Keep this up, and we’ll call security.”

Jennifer plopped onto the floor, shrieking with her sharp voice. “He hit me! The doctor hit me! And now the nurses are threatening me!”

Her noise drew onlookers from nearby wards.

The two young nurses weren’t used to such shameless theatrics. Their cheeks flushed, and they stammered nervously, “Don’t make things up.”

Valeria didn’t look back. Her thin frame trembled uncontrollably.

Her clear eyes lowered, staring blankly at the ground. She could hear her own breathing.

And she could hear him behind her. Each breath was heavy, close to her ear. His breathing was deep, as though he was suppressing something turbulent within.

Valeria’s mind went blank. Instinctively, she licked her dry lips and took a step forward, reaching to pick up the fallen kettle.

Just then, a hand seized her wrist. It gripped her tightly, forcefully pulling her forward, making her stumble along.

It took Valeria several steps to realize what was happening. She began to struggle. The two of them seemed to lose the ability to speak, neither saying a word.

Valeria didn’t look at him, but she knew he was staring at her. That gaze almost felt like it could burn through her.

She only stared at the hand holding her wrist, using all her strength to try to break free.

The more she resisted, the tighter Sebastian’s grip became.

His jaw clenched, his eyes fixed on her face.

He walked quickly, dragging her along, stumbling to keep up.

The hospital’s famously aloof doctor was leading a resisting young woman through the

corridors.

They passed the nurses’ station and the wards, causing plenty of staff and patients to cast

shocked, nosy glances their way.

Sebastian pulled Valeria into his lounge. His fingers were trembling as he finally got the key

into the lock

His palm pressed against her shoulder blades as he shoved lightly, pushing Valeria inside.

Then, he shut the door and locked it from the outside.
