“We might need you to play along and put on a bit of a show,” Adam said, straight to the point.

“A show?” Stella frowned, clearly confused.

Adam went on, “With Theodore Jansen’s social standing, we only get one shot at questioning him. If things blow up, it could stir up a media storm. And if we don’t get what we need, it’ll be nearly impossible to investigate him again.”

No matter how shady Theodore was, he was still the CEO of the Jansen Group, and Adam couldn’t just go after him based on the victim’s word alone.

“Understood,” Stella nodded. “How should I cooperate?”

“Well,” Adam began.

“No way,” Erica said anxiously. “Stella, you and the Jansen family don’t get along to begin with. If you get involved, Theodore will definitely retaliate against you.”

From Erica’s perspective, Sylvia was the only one Theodore ever truly treated as his own daughter.

“Ms. Spencer,” Adam hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Ms. Russell’s got a point. This is just a request, not an order. Whatever you decide, we’ll keep digging into this.”

“It’s fine,” Stella smiled at him before turning to Erica, her expression serious. “Erica, since you know the history between me and him, you know why I’m agreeing.”

To outsiders, they looked like father and daughter, but deep down, they were sworn enemies.

Erica had visited Stella’s mother at the nursing home, and honestly, when Erica first saw her, she barely recognized her. Stella’s mother was nothing like the elegant, graceful one she remembered.

Erica wasn’t surprised Stella wanted to take this chance to strike at Theodore. But Erica was still worried. “But what if he retaliates?

“Don’t worry, Ms. Russell,” Adam replied, steady as ever. “After everything’s done, I’ll have two of my guys stick close to Stella, undercover. No one’s gonna lay a finger on her.”

“Okay, fine,” Erica reluctantly agreed, letting out a small sigh.

“We’ll get in touch with you when we’ve got the details settled. For now, just focus on healing up,” Adam said as he stood, giving a polite nod. He came today just to lay the groundwork.

Once the cops left, Stella and Erica did a quick cleanup and headed out together,

At the high–end boutique, as soon as they arrived, Jeremy handed Stella a dress.

“Stella, I had this made for you yesterday based on your usual size. Try it on and let me know if we need to adjust anything,” Jeremy said with a warm smile.

“Okay,” Stella nodded, taking the dress and heading into the fitting room.

When Stella stepped out, the buzzing room instantly fell silent.

Soft beams of light crossed the room, bathing her in an ethereal glow. Her long hair fell down her back, partially covering her exposed skin. As she moved, the gem hanging at her chest sparkled brightly.

“Stella,” Erica gasped, breaking the silence. She rushed over to Stella, hugging her arm and gushing, “You look incredible. Wow, you’re the prettiest–absolutely stunning, totally flawless.”

All the praise made Stella a little embarrassed. “Erica, you’re exaggerating.”

“No way,” Erica said. “If I were a guy, I’d totally be crushing on you right now.”

Then she shot Jeremy an approving glance. “Not bad, Jeremy. You’ve got great taste.”

Jeremy smiled and turned to Stella. “So, how does it feel? Is there anything that needs adjusting?”

“What’s going on?” Stella couldn’t see the scene, so she asked.

she’d make sure he regretted it.

Ernest happened to catch that last line. Sylvia had dragged him over with her.

Spotting Stella and Erica, Sylvia put on her most charming smile, acting like they were all best friends. “Ms. Spencer, Ms. Russell, what a small world. Didn’t expect to bump into you two here.”

“Oh, please, could you just keep your distance? Just seeing you ruins my day,” Erica scoffed, rolling her eyes so hard they might’ve gotten stuck.

“I was just being polite. No need to get so worked up.” Sylvia replied sweetly, though the underlying sarcasm

was clear.

Erica totally ignored Sylvia, brushing her off like she wasn’t even there.

Sylvia then turned her attention to Stella. “Ms. Spencer, you really know how to pick your friends. The Russell family rallying so hard behind you–honestly, I’m a bit envious.”

Erica exploded, about ready to start a fight. Stella stopped her and played along with Sylvia’s sarcastic tone. “What can I say? Some of us are just blessed with loyal friends.”

“Let’s see how long you can keep up that smug attitude,” Sylvia snorted.

Erica fired back, “Sylvia, you think being a homewrecker is something to brag about? Just wait, a few days from now, your precious Jansen family is gonna be…”

“Erica,” Stella cut in sharply, stopping her friend before she could spill too much.

Realizing she’d let her temper get the best of her, Erica clamped her mouth shut, her cheeks flushing with

regret.

Though she hadn’t finished speaking, it was clear that big trouble was coming for the Jansen family.
