He didn’t push any further and simply added, “We’ve got the situation covered. I’ll have my team take care of the rest. Appreciate what you two did last night.”
“It’s nothing.” Stella replied with a faint smile. “After all, I did it for myself, too.”
“I’ll take my leave then.” Adam said.
He nodded, about to walk out, then suddenly paused. With a bit of hesitation in his eyes, he glanced back at Stella
Even though her eyes weren’t fully healed yet, Stella could still catch the conflicted look on his face. “Captain Lance, if you’ve got something to say, just go ahead.”
Adam hesitated before speaking. “I’ll keep investigating, but don’t get your hopes up too much. The case is basically closed, and there aren’t any new leads. At this point, it’s just me and my team still holding on, but in the end. it’s probably going to…”
Just fizzle out, Stella finished for him.
“No worries, Stella said with a smile. “I’m already mentally prepared for this, so don’t stress yourself about it.”
“Alright.” Adam nodded.
After he left, only Stella and Erica remained in the room.
Erica, never one to sit still, nudged Stella with her elbow after just a couple of minutes of quiet. “Stella, I’m so bored. Why don’t I keep you company and drag you out for a little fun?”
She’s just saying that because she wanna go out, huh?‘ Stella thought, a bit resigned. “Shouldn’t it be me keeping you company?
Erica wickered ‘Come on, we’re besties. That doesn’t make any difference.”
“So, where do you have in mind?‘ Stella asked
Her eyes still weren’t fully healed, which meant most things were off the table for now. But maybe heading out for a bit would help take her mind off stuff.
Hmm..“Erica mused, scratching her head Honestly? No clue. We’ve pretty much tried everything already… I just can’t come up with anything fun right now
How about we grab a bite first?” Stella suggested.
“Works for me. I’m actually starting to get hungry Erica replied
Just as Erica was about to take Stella out, Ernest’s tall frame suddenly filled the doorway, blocking their exit.

“Wow, seriously? You even chased us all the way here?” Erica threw at him, not bothering to hide her
annoyance.
When she realized it was Ernest, Erica’s brows instantly furrowed.
Stella’s smile disappeared. She looked at him and said flatly, “Did you need something?”
“Yeah.” Ernest nodded, cutting straight to the chase. “Grandpa heard your eyes are almost healed, so he wants you home for dinner tonight.”
Stella recalled Sebastian bringing it up a couple of days ago, so she just agreed. “Alright. I’ll come over tonight on my own.”
“Sounds good.” Ernest nodded.
With everything supposedly wrapped up, Ernest still didn’t budge from the doorway. Erica, hot–tempered as ever, was just about to storm over and shove him aside when Stella reached out and held her back.
Frowning, Stella shot Ernest a look. “Ernest, do you need something else?” she asked, not bothering to hide her impatience.
“I’m swamped with work at the office today,” Ernest admitted. “Could you pick Irene up after school?”
Stella glanced at him. “And what about Sylvia?” she asked.
“She’s still recovering,” Ernest said simply.
“Got it,” Stella replied.
After that brief exchange, Ernest finally stepped aside.
Erica let out a huff, grabbed Stella’s arm, and pulled her around him, not even bothering to spare him a second glance as they walked out.
A breeze slipped through the corridor windows, making Stella’s hair sway and cascade. As they passed, a stray lock softly flicked across Ernest’s nose, lingering with a trace of her delicate fragrance–almost enough to make his heart skip a beat.
Ernest’s eyes turned shadowy, filled with emotions so deep and unreadable that no one could hope to guess what was on his mind.
After lunch, Stella and Erica spent the whole day having a blast out on the town. They timed it perfectly, arriving at the school gates just as Irene was about to get out.
Before Stella even caught sight of her, an adorable, excited little voice called out to her. “Ms. Pretty!”

Stella leaned down and picked Daisy up, wiping the sweat off her forehead before asking, “Daisy, do you go to school here too?”
Erica was totally in the dark, so Stella covered Daisy’s ears and explained quietly, her tone tinged with helplessness. “Honestly, I have no idea why this happens. Every time Daisy runs into me, that side of her–the ‘Lily‘ personality–just mysteriously vanishes.”
Stella gently pulled Daisy closer, soothing her in a soft voice, “Daisy, remember what your uncle told you last time? Lily probably just went off to rest for a bit. She’ll be back tonight when you’re home and getting ready for bed, I promise.”
“You sure?” Daisy looked up at Stella, her eyes still red.

Stella nodded with confidence. “Absolutely, it’s true.”
Daisy gave a little pout, but finally stopped crying. “Okay then.”
Erica was totally dumbfounded.
‘Is she just playing me for laughs?‘ Erica thought, completely thrown off.

“Daisy, I spent forever trying to cheer you up, and you ignored me the whole time, but as soon as Ms. Pretty says two words, you stop crying? Seriously, are you playing favorites or what?” Erica teased, pretending to pout as she poked Daisy’s cheek.
Daisy buried her face in Stella’s neck, her voice soft and bashful. “It’s because I like Ms. Pretty the most.”
Stunned, Erica looked completely hurt.
She clutched her chest dramatically, feeling her heart turn numb from the blow.
‘Damn, kid, you really know how to hit me right in the feels,‘ Erica thought, utterly defeated.
“Daisy, Erica was really worried about you just now,” Stella said with a warm smile, trying to smooth things over. “So be sure to like her too, okay?”
“Okay!” Daisy nodded enthusiastically. “I like Erica—”
She paused, then turned to Stella with a serious look and declared, “But I like Ms. Pretty the best!”
Stella’s heart just turned to absolute mush at Daisy’s sweet, wholehearted affection–she could hardly handle the cuteness.
Meanwhile, Erica pretended to grind her teeth to dust. “You little ingrate! After all the work I put in to cheer you up, you go and drag me through the mud just like that? Guess I wasted all my love on you!”
Out of nowhere, a kid’s loud voice cut through the air nearby. “Mom! What are you doing?”
