Meanwhile, at a nearby barbecue joint, Stella and her friends were gathered around a large round table.

Hearing that Stella had recovered and been discharged from the hospital, Jeremy had made a special trip to pick her up, ready to take her out for a celebration.

Harvey and his family had the same idea.

The big table was packed, creating a lively, crowded atmosphere.

“Let’s cat.”

Richard hadn’t come; at his age, he didn’t have the stamina for late nights.

As the eldest person present, Marvin gave the word, and everyone picked up their forks and dug in.

After the meal, Marvin and Evelyn left first.

Before they went, Evelyn told Harvey, “It’s getting late. Don’t let your cousin stay out too long. Make sure you get home early.”

“Okay,” Harvey nodded. The moment they were gone, he slid over to Stella, his expression conspiratorial. “Hey, Stella, I’ve got someone I want you to meet. Interested?”

“Who is it?” Stella asked.

But Harvey just grinned. “You’ll find out tomorrow.”

Stella was speechless.

‘Then why tell me now?‘

Harvey’s reasoning was simple: just for the fun of it.

Seizing the opportunity, Jeremy chimed in, “Now that you’re better, when are you planning on coming back to the office?

Both the Thorn Collection and the upcoming Starlight Project needed her leadership.

Stella thought for a moment. “The day after tomorrow.”

She had to talk things over with Ernest tomorrow, and that would likely take some time.

“Sounds good,” Jeremy nodded. He chatted with her a bit more before getting up to leave.

“Let’s go,” Harvey said, ruffling Stella’s hair. “You heard your aunt. She wants me to get you home early, or I’ll get an earful.”

Before Stella could reply, Erica jumped in. “Harvey, Stella’s staying at my place tonight. She’s not going back

with you.”

Harvey raised an eyebrow, looking at Stella in confusion. She just nodded in agreement. “Yeah, Harvey. I’m staying with Erica tonight.”

“You two got something planned?”

“Mhm.”

“Alright, then. I’ll let my mom know when I get back.”

“Okay.”

After their brief exchange, Harvey was about to leave but paused at the door. He turned back to Stella, who was also getting up to go. “Don’t forget, I’m introducing you to someone tomorrow. Make sure you keep some time free.”

“I will.

With that settled, Harvey didn’t linger and left.

“Stella,” Erica said, nudging her with her shoulder and giving her a gossipy look. “Harvey’s being so insistent. You don’t think he’s finally had it with that scumbag Ernest and wants to introduce you to someone who’ll treat you right?”

Sometimes, Stella was truly amazed by her friend’s imagination.

“Don’t let your mind run wild,” Stella said, patting her arm.

“Ouch!” Erica yelped dramatically. “What? Are you getting shy?”

If she wanted to play that game, Stella wasn’t going to hold back.

“The high–society wild…”

“Enough! I said, that’s enough!” Erica shrieked, completely losing her composure.

To make matters worse, her shout instantly caught the attention of the other patrons in the restaurant. They glanced over once, twice, a third time… and after confirming her identity, the place erupted.

“Look! It’s the high–society wild boar!”

“Where? Where’s the boar? I’ve gotta see if she’s really as wild as they say!”

“Let’s go, people! She’s right there, charge!”

The restaurant exploded with noise.

Under the sudden, intense spotlight, Erica genuinely panicked.

Seeing her friend’s distress, Stella grabbed her hand and started running for the door, not a hint of panic on

In the brightly lit CEO’s office, a woman’s playful voice echoed from the phone lying flat on the desk. Ernest sat in his chair, staring at the radiant, defiant smile on the screen, his eyes swirling with an unreadable darkness.

married?”

Erica pouted. “I’m never getting married.”

With Stella as a cautionary tale, Erica felt she was already developing a fear of marriage.

Besides, her old man wasn’t pushing her, and there was no family–arranged marriage on the horizon. There was no need for her to ask for trouble.

“Fair enough,” Stella agreed, nodding. “There’s really no need to rush into marriage.”

Aside from choosing a college, marriage was the most critical decision in a person’s life.

One wrong choice could ruin the rest of your life.

Very few people were lucky enough to escape a toxic situation like she had.

And even though Stella had broken free, seven years of damage had still left an unhealable scar on her heart.

Most importantly, not everyone had the resources to leave when they made that choice.

Her supportive mentor, her caring best friend, and her devoted uncle’s family–they were the ones who had given her a safety net, allowing her to confidently and freely choose her own path.

Stella pushed the thoughts away, but her grip on Erica tightened.

“Oof…” came a dramatic, exaggerated cry of pain.

Sensing her friend’s shift in mood, Erica deliberately tried to be silly. “Stella, you’re going to squeeze the barbecue right out of me.”

That made Stella laugh. “Don’t worry. I’ll just help you stuff it back in.”

Erica fell silent.

The topic had become a little disgusting. The joking was, for the moment, cancelled.
