Life is Easier If You're Handsome novel Chapter 308

There are people who absolutely hate spoilers.

No matter the time of day, they’ll sprint to the very first screening in the fastest theater available—

Just to experience the film before anyone else can ruin it.

And their dopamine hits its peak—

The moment they encounter a massive plot twist, completely unspoiled.

The kind that sends you hunting for an “unseen brain” and “unspoiled eyes” to replace your own. In Murcielago, that moment arrived without warning.

The roar of wind—loud enough to be heard like a deep whoooosh. And in the midst of it, the Joker stands on a building ledge, completely unfazed.

“Holy shit... Joker was Kim Donghu?”

“Wait a second... So that’s why they kept it such a secret?”

“Yeah... this one was worth hiding.”

“So what now? What does this even mean?”

“Is he playing both roles? Batman and Joker?”

“How does someone still look hot in full clown makeup?”

The Joker spreads a handful of playing cards from his coat with a grin.

Twenty-three cards.

Exactly the number of criminals who attacked the orphanage.

These were details no one watching live would notice.

Details that wouldn’t be pieced together until days after the credits rolled.

The camera lingers on the fluttering cards in the wind—

Then pans back to where the Joker stood...

But the rooftop is now completely empty.

The scene cuts back.

Batman, having resolved the incident, leaves the orphanage behind.

“Who’s gonna thank you for playing hero?”

Catwoman appears behind him, seemingly exhausted from handling her own part of the job.

“Does anyone thank thieves? I’m not here as a thief today anyway—I had business.”

“At the orphanage?”

“No. With you.”

Click.

She slips her hand between her cleavage and pulls out a small drug packet.

“Interested?”

“I already have one.”

“This one’s different. It’s exactly what those guys were high on.”

“What do you want?”

“That’s how you talk to women? Straight to the deal? That’s a bad look.”

Still holding the packet between her chest, Catwoman steps closer until their bodies nearly touch.

Stomach against stomach.

Breath brushing between them.

A mere 30 centimeters between their lips.

“You have to seduce the woman first if you want something from her.” “I’m not entertaining this game. Especially not after taking down a few criminals.”

Batman doesn’t push her away—

Instead, he simply reaches into her cleavage and pulls the drug packet out with zero hesitation.

No emotional charge. Just a clean, mechanical extraction.

Pluck.

“You’ll want money, right? I’ll pay you next time.”

“Wow. That’s it? Just like that?”

There’s no response.

An obvious sign that he has no time to waste.

“Wait, next time? Who says we’ll meet again?”

“If you keep following me like this, we will.”

Conversation—over.

At the same time, the film’s background music shifts—

Darker, more serious.

We’ve entered the middle act. And the story begins to shift rapidly.

The early sections focused on who Batman is.

What kind of life he lived. Why he became the Bat. How he upgraded his suit—his foundation.

Now, with the Joker’s entrance—

We shift to the narrative. The central conflict. The real story begins here.

“This is insane. Actually insane.”

So, is this where Batman vs. Joker kicks off?

And he’s playing both roles?

The audience was locked in—

Eyes wide, dopamine spiking through the roof.

How could it possibly get any better than this?

Their limbs tingled with anticipation.

A different location—far from where the orphanage raid occurred. Not a grimy warehouse, but a high-end-looking office.

There’s just one problem: Corpses. Several dead bodies, beaten to death, litter the floor.

Judging by their matching suits, they were probably the original office staff. Ironically, the suits complemented the office decor perfectly.

“Mmm... you really outdid yourselves! Really! Thanks to you, Batman now knows the chemical makeup of our drug!”

Unlike the corner stacked with bodies, the center table is surrounded by men in clown makeup.

“T-that’s—”

“Whoa whoa whoa, no talking.”

The Joker cuts off the frightened man.

With a look that says, “Speak any further and I’ll get bored,”

He licks his lips—eyes still smiling.

“Look... I know you’ve got some serious courage. It’s fine. It’s all good. Totally fine!”

And to show he really meant it, the Joker burst into unhinged laughter.

Madness.

Chaos.

That’s all he seemed to be made of. The criminals sitting around the table looked utterly lost.

And here’s the twist— These weren’t seasoned actors.

These were the fake Jokers. And this was their first time meeting the real Joker—Kim Donghu.

Their panic? 100% real.

That shock, that confusion—It was captured on film and made the scene feel even richer.

From the opulent chandeliers to the paintings adorning the walls, you’d almost think you’d have to donate for even those.

Yet Jin Wayne maintained his composure, greeting everyone approaching him with bright courtesy.

“Jin Wayne! You made it.”

“I was invited.”

“Haha, you don’t quite live up to the rumors. They say you’re extremely free-spirited.”

“I’m as free as ever. ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) Who’s going to restrain me?”

Among the assembled elite, Jin Wayne was at the very top. A mayor whose term could end at any time and step down, unlike the life-risking police chief. He was the thickest pillar supporting Gotham—the sole and legitimate heir to the Wayne legacy.

“You’re even more handsome than the rumors say.”

“Rumors are bound to be like that.”

Naturally, people flocked to him. As the party atmosphere ripened, Jin Wayne’s eyes caught sight of someone— A female waiter carrying champagne glasses.

A face he hadn’t seen before, yet that was only her eyes. Her lips, her gait, and the aura she exuded—it all reminded him of someone he often met at night.

Could it be?

I wanted to grab her and ask, but that might jeopardize my own cover. So it was best to pretend I didn’t notice.

At least it seems nothing’s wrong...

A somewhat relieved expression crossed his face, as if regretting his needless worries. Just as he was about to sip his champagne, suddenly:

CLINK!

Glass shattered.

“Alright, party’s over! Or rather, the second act of the party begins! Let’s enjoy this damn show!”

About twenty clowns burst into the party hall.

Were they the police assigned to protect the dignitaries? They now lay on the floor, slowly cooling off as if nothing had happened.

And, stepping on the corpses of such people, someone declared:

“When so many pretty people gather in one place, well... you know, we have no choice but to change our original plan.”

Originally, they would have blown up the bridges and collapsed the subway tunnels to geographically isolate Gotham. But now, they thought, they could isolate the city in another, more symbolic way.

The Joker reappeared as he savored every word, stepping into view. In a white suit, he pointed a gun at the heads of those around him, smiling as he enjoyed their reactions.

It was a dark night. A massive hostage situation had erupted in the middle of the street.

The main hostages were the mayor, the police chief, and the pillars holding up Gotham itself.

“Hmm?”

One person was missing.

Where did they go? Did they hide?

The Joker’s eyes glittered.

Quickly, he strode forward— I wanted to step up and reveal part of my disguise to crack a joke, but...

“Ah, sorry everyone, but I need to find one person...”

If you can’t see them, you have to go look. Before he could even finish the thought, suddenly:

BANG!

CLINK!

Gunshots echoed as a chandelier crashed to the floor. And at the same moment—

Thud.

Every light in the party hall went out. Plunged into sudden darkness.

And from that darkness, a voice emerged:

“Have you found me?”

Batman.

It was the moment when he first locked eyes with the Joker.
