Lingering Rain, Lingering Love – Chapter 12

June 26, 2025~The Bookworm

Was Rebecca really clamoring for a divorce just because he hadn’t come home to care for her after she’d had a dip in the river? Did she feel that hostile toward Giselle? Was their marriage a joke to her?

Stephan was so angry that the veins in his forehead bulged. He grabbed the divorce agreement and was about to flip through it when Rebecca finally answered the phone.

She asked coldly, “What?”

“Are you using divorce to threaten me this time? Do you really need to go this far?” Stephan snapped.

Rebecca remained calm in the face of his anger. She picked up a remote and pressed a button to draw the curtains. Then, she stretched lazily before answering, “of course not.”

Stephan relaxed slightly when he heard that. Then, what she said next made his heart shoot to his throat again. She said, “Our marriage is already over. Why would I need to threaten you?”

Over?

He barked out an exasperated laugh, his gaze dark. “You think it’s over just because you say it is? I won’t sign the divorce agreement! Never!”

So, he’d yet to look through the agreement, Rebecca headed to the table and picked up her coffee, taking a sip. “Don’t be so sure of yourself. I’d advise you to go through the agreement before saying anything else.”

She sounded so nonchalant that Stephan suddenly panicked. He clenched his fists, crumpling the papers in his hand. After a moment of hesitation, he decided against arguing with Rebecca and flipped open the agreement.
