Chapter 413 I‘ve Moved On After she cleared out all the books from the shelf, Clarissa saw a familiar face just opposite her. It was Caleb Mckenny, and he was organizing the books on the shelves. With tears shimmering in her eyes, Clarissa didn‘t feel comfortable showing her vulnerable
side in front of her student.
“Why are you here?” she asked. “I work here. Miss Johnson, have you been crying?” he asked as he organized the books.
“No,” Clarissa lied. “Miss Johnson, you‘re five years older than me, right?” Caleb asked.
“What?” Clarissa wiped her tears, obviously still in a daze.
LO
“You graduated from the University of Emmeria with a Ph.D. in the field of finance.”
“I see you‘ve attended the meeting held by the head of supervisors.” Clarissa tried her best to sound calm and collected.
“So I‘m right!” Caleb continued. “What do you mean by that?” Clarissa frowned. She didn‘t know what Caleb was talking about. His gaze landed on Clarissa‘s face, “Miss Johnson, do you have a boyfriend?” Taken aback by that question, Clarissa didn‘t know how to word her reply.
What was more, she didn‘t feel obligated to answer that question. He was asking about her personal life, after all. “If you‘re single, I‘ll try my best to win your heart.” Caleb shot a determined look at her. Only then did Clarissa understand his intentions. She wanted to ask him if he was crazy, but she held back her words because she knew she couldn’t curse at her student. That would be rude.
With Grandpa’s work in her hands, she turned to leave, though not before saying, “I already have a son.”
Looking at her back as she left, Caleb said confidently to himself, “She‘s lying!
Though she was conflicted, Clarissa decided to skip the meeting by telling President Benson she couldn‘t make it due to her tight class schedule. In return, she asked President Benson to record the meeting. She even promised to write a comprehensive report for him after she had watched it. Knowing that Clarissa was a full–time lecturer who couldn‘t ask for a leave without legitimate reasons, President Benson bought the excuse and didn‘t press on the matter. Besides, Clarissa did propose a reasonable solution. So, President Benson thought that it wouldn‘t hurt to compromise. Clarissa sighed in relief upon receiving President Benson’s approval. Genovia, Damien’s house.
“Damien, are you going to attend the follow–up meeting at Florin? It’s a rare opportunity to reconcile with Clarissa!”
Damien, who was sitting on the sofa while reading a book, said, “I‘m not attending.” “If you hate her that much, why don‘t you just confront her personally? You need to talk it out with her! Think about it! It‘s already been three years since you last talked to her,” Ray said with an exasperated tone. “You said it yourself. She left for three years.” Damien sounded annoyed.
Ray was enraged by Damien‘s childishness. “Fine, then. Since our partnership with Eden Investment is long-term, you’ll still have to see her one day.”
“You can handle those meetings for me.” “Damien, why are you acting so childish? Can‘t you just let it go already?” “Me? Acting childish?” Damien snorted. “I‘ve moved on from her.” Ray was completely speechless. “Daddy, where are you going?” Neil was sweating from head to toe when he entered the house. Damien caressed Neil‘s head. “Are you tired already from playing outside?”
