Love You Like I Used To Forget It (Millie Bridge) novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

As night fell, the club gradually grew lively. The flashing neon lights and boisterous atmosphere were in full swing.

When Gideon was escorting clients to a private room to discuss business, he suddenly stopped. After instructing his assistant to take the clients to the room first, he walked toward the adjacent room. His gaze fell on Irvin after exchanging pleasantries.

Irvin, isn’t today Mrs. Quill Senior’s 70th birthday? Why are you drinking here instead of attending the celebration?

Irvin didn’t respond. He simply raised his glass and downed another mouthful of liquor.

What’s wrong? Still angry at Emilia?he asked. Honestly Emilia’s being unreasonable. She should be making an effort to reconce with you at a time like this.

It’s Mrs. Quill Senior’s 70th birthday. If you don’t attend with her, imagine how much ridicule she’ll face on her

own.

Irvin’s eyes darkened as he unconsciously glanced at his phone. When he saw the screen was clearno missed calls or unread messageshis expression turned even darker.

Ever since he left yesterday, he had been waiting for my call Today was Grandma’s 70th birthday, after all.

He thought no matter the circumstances, I would apologize and ask for his forgiveness so we could attend the celebration together for the sake of making Grandma happy and worryfree.

The celebration must have already started at this hour, yet I still hadn’t come to apologize.

Wasn’t I the one who cared most about Grandma and never wanted her to worry? The 70th birthday was a major milestone. It wasn’t just an ordinary family celebration.

Nearly all of Claudeville’s upperclass circle would attend that event. As my husband, if he didn’t accompany me, where would that leave my reputation?

Even if I didn’t care about appearances anymore, wasn’t I afraid of causing Grandma concern?

Irvin, in any case, 70 is a significant milestone for the elderly. It wouldn’t look good if you didn’t show up. Emilia is being immature, but don’t stoop to her level,Gideon advised.

As soon as Gideon finished speaking, someone chimed in, Woah, Gideon, why are you defending Emilia so much? Do you like her?

Tsk, tsk, nothing beats the fun of going after your friend’s wife, huh?

Gideon frowned and was just about to say something when Irvin flung his glass fiercely at the speaker. The glass hit the man squarely in the face, and blood splattered instantly!

The room fell silent in an instant.

The man who was hit finally came to his senses. Irvin

He was about to ask what was wrong and why Irvin had suddenly turned violent. But then he remembered something.

The last time someone in a private room called me usedand claimed no one would buy me even if ere for sale, that person disappeared from Claudeville’s elite circles the very next day.

The man immediately shul his mouth, not daring to breathe too loudly.

Gideon assumed Irvin’s outburst was due to his anger over the and expected him to leave for Grandma’s birthday celebration. But instead, Irvin sat back down and continued drinking.

Gideon wanted to say something but reconsidered it. After a few more casual remarks, he left the room.

Irvin, though seated and drinking, kept glancing at his phone from time to time. Yet no matter how often he checked, there were no calls or messages from the person he was waiting for.

This made him increasingly agitated as he drank

He couldn’t understand what was wrong with me. How could I neglect even the grandmother I cared about the most? Previously, I would call him a hundred times in a single day, badgering him endlessly just to have a meal with him and Grandma to reassure her that we were doing well.

But now

He thought about how he had given me an easy way out, hoping we could attend Grandma’s milestone birthday together today.

Yet I insisted on pushing for a divorce, even accusing him of refusing to divorce me only because he didn’t want to split the assets and was hoping for my death.

This only made him angrier. He thought that I had become irrational, merely consumed by jealousy and baseless accusations.

Noticing his growing frustration, Irvin’s friend suggested, Irvin, why don’t you lower your pride just this once? Women need to be coaxed.

Irvin was clearly irritated as he let out a cold laugh. Coax her?

It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried. He had swallowed his pride, but I refused to stop pushing things too far!

Although he didn’t say anything particularly harsh, his expression made those around him feel that I wasn’t worth it. For a moment, no one could figure out exactly where Irvin stood regarding me.

Irvin glanced at his phone again, still finding nothing. Furious, he threw it aside. If I really had the guts, then I’d better not call him! I’d better not come to grovel and beg him!

He’d like to see how I handled Grandma’s worry and questioning without him!

What Irvin didn’t know was that I no longer cared about Grandma’s concerns. That was because I had already told her about my decision to divorce him.

Surprisingly, Grandma was delighted. She even said that if she could witness my divorce from Irvin, she’d feel like she could live another 500 years.

For the sake of adding another 500 years to Grandma’s lifespan, I was determined to go through with the divorce no matter what!

Although I no longer cared about Irvin, the outside world still believed I couldn’t live without him. I became a laughingstock when they noticed that Irvin didn’t accompany me to the birthday celebration,

Those from less prominent families mocked me in private, while those from more prestigious families ridiculed me openly.

The jabs came from all directions, piercing me so thoroughly that there was nowhere to hide. I felt uneasy about this, even as the person I am now, let alone me from the past.

If I hadn’t let go of my love for Irvin, and if I still deeply loved him, I would’ve been in agony by now. I’d probably call him nonstop, begging him to come. I’d be willing to do anything just to have him by my side.

But I was grateful I was no longer that version of myself.

Mrs. Sawyer, why didn’t Mr. Sawyer accompany you to your grandmother’s birthday celebration? Couldn’t get him to come even after begging on your knees?Violet Longford asked.

Oh, Mrs. Longford, don’t bring up such sore subjects. Mrs. Sawyer is already feeling bad enough, chimed in Ellis Bing as she pretended to defend me.

Then she turned the conversation, her voice dripping with mockery. But honestly, Mrs. Sawyer, if a woman can’t even keep her own husband’s heart, isn’t that just pathetic?

If it were me, and Hty husband didn’t accompany me to such an important event for my grandmother, I’d simply find à rope and hang myself!

Oh, if only she had the selfawareness to hang herself! My dear nephew could finally remarry someone who could give him children. Then he wouldn’t have wasted so many years being tied to a barren hen like her!

The speaker was Irvin’s aunt, Katie Saunders. After Irvin’s mother passed away, she took it upon herself to fill that role. She often wielded her authority as a standin motherinlaw ever since I married Irvin.

She frequently called me uselessa barren hen. No, I was worse than a hen because at least a hen that couldn’t lay eggs could be used to make soup.

According to her, I couldn’t even be made into soup and was only delaying Irvin’s chances of finding someone better.

I didn’t know how the old me endured all of this, but the current me had no intention of putting up with it.

I retorted one by one, Yes, why didn’t Irvin accompany me to my grandmother’s birthday?

I think, Mrs. Longford, you should ask him why he lacks basic manners and respect for his elders that he’d even skip such an important celebration. Instead of questioning me about his absence, direct your questions to him.

Oh, and while you’re at it, maybe ask your own husband why he didn’t show up to your grand wedding anniversary either. Was your husband’s secretary’s bed too enticing?

And Mrs. Bing, you said you couldn’t bear it if your husband didn’t join you for your grandmother’s birthday celebration, but you seem perfectly fine tolerating him keeping mistresses left and right and fathering countless illegitimate children.

I must say, your tolerance is truly fascinating!

Violet and Ellis stared at me with wide eyes, utterly stunned. Their expressions were filled with disbelief.

They couldn’t believe that the person they used to ridicule who would force a smile, retreat to a corner, and wallow in selfpitydared to fight back like this.

Not to mention that I’d directly strike at their most vulnerable points.
