was currently treating Louis to a meal when I met someone unexpected.

I was seated at a table in a private room for him. When the door was opened, Gideon Stone walked in. He was like a brother to Irvin and one of his closest friends.

Before I could speak, Louis said, Emilia, allow me to introduce you to Gideon Stone. He’s one of my former students and has returned to inherit his family business. It was thanks to him that your case was resolved so quickly.

Gideon’s family owned a chain of pharmacies. It could be said there was one on the corner of every street in Claudevile.

In fact, there was a branch across from the hotel where the drugging incident had taken place.

It just so happened that the branch had been celebrating its anniversary the day the incident occurred. Because of this, they happened to be holding an event at the time of the incident.

As such, the store had captured the moment I left the hotel. This was how they were able to uncover the truth so swiftly.

Gideon had put in a lot of effort to find the footage from back then,Louis added.

His words made me look at Gideon in surprise.

Wasn’t he very close with Irvin? Why would he help me?

That being said, he was also the only one in Irvin’s inner circle who treated me with respect. He had never once made things

difficult for me.

Nevertheless, he was still one of Irvin’s closest friends. Hence, I was surprised he had chosen to help me with my case.

Gideon seemed to know what I was thinking.

He raised his glass in a toast. As he did so, he smiled at me and said The reason I’m close to Irvin was never because of him. You may not remember this, Emilia, but we have met before when you were in high school.

My mind was blank. I definitely didn’t remember it.

Gideon chuckled but didn’t elaborate further. He merely told me I didn’t need to be so formal with him.

A short while later, he had to leave due to an urgent matter. His seat wasn’t even warm yet.

I could tell from our brief exchange that there was a hidden meaning behind his words. However, I didn’t dwell on them.

I just wanted to focus on my studies now that I was close to divorcing Irvin. I would repay Mr. Holland and the legal big shots by becoming someone useful to society and the country.

After dinner, I headed straight home. I was eager to return to my warm bed as quickly as possible, so I decided to take a shortcut.

I would be home once I turned the corner. Just as I was about to do so, a black car suddenly swerved out from a side street. It rammed straight into the guardrail at a crazy, uncontrollable speed before flipping over the rail and landed on the field below.

I was so startled by the sudden accident that I forgot to stop. I was about to hit a streetlight. This triggered my car’s automatic driving alert, which began beeping loudly.

That was when I returned to my senses and quickly slammed on the brakes.

The first thing I did once my car had stopped was dial the emergency numbers. I notified the police and emer the situation. Once that was done, I got out of my car and went to check on the black car.

As I got close, I noticed fuel leaking from it. That meant it could soon catch fire and explode.

Fear gripped my heart. My first instinct was to drag the people out of the car. But then, I remembered my current physical

condition and hesitated.

I was afraid I didn’t have the strength to pull them out. Not only that, I was also worried I might end up sharing their fate

I was at war with my thoughts.

I had almost died once. My life had been hanging by a thread. At the same time, I was also extremely grateful to the person who had saved me.

In the end, I couldn’t just stand idly by. I couldn’t bear to leave the people in the car. They might not even last till help arrived.

I slid down the slope and picked up a brick the car had knocked loose. I was going to use it to smash the car’s window so I could drag its passengers out.

Julianne was left emptyhanded after having given all the money to Travis. Because of this, she was feeling down in the dumps. Suddenly, a black car swerved out from behind her and nearly hit her car.

It startled her. However, before she could react, the car crashed into the guardrail and flipped over.

Her heart was racing, and she didn’t notice she was veering off the road. It was only when she was about to hit the side rail that she hurriedly slammed on the brakes.

She stopped and collected herself. Once she did, she was about to drive off as though she hadn’t seen the accident. That was when she noticed a familiar figure stepping out of the white car in front of her.

It was me.

Julianne had originally intended to leave. However, once she had confirmed it was really me, she stopped the car again.
