Chapter 173
I knew it. I knew things wouldn’t go as smoothly as Irvin had confidently claimed. Something unexpected was bound to happen.
I had told Irvin not to bring Ms. Plume along. I had even told him she had bullied me in the past and that she was close with Travis. I had also pointed out that something was amiss when Travis had singled her out.
But Travis had insisted that Ms. Plume accompanied us. And just like how Irvin refused to let me go, he also declined sending Ms. Plume away. Not only that, he had handed me over to her without hesitation. He had allowed her to deliver me to Travis without a second thought.
It seemed Irvin just didn’t trust me. When it was between me and Julianne, he had implicitly trusted Julianne. And he did the same when it came to Ms. Plume.
Ms. Plume was one of his subordinates who obeyed him without question. So, he believed she wouldn’t act against him. He also assumed she wouldn’t do anything to harm me.
No, that wasn’t right. It wasn’t that he implicitly trusted Ms. Plume. It was more like he instinctually believed in his own judgment.
Irvin had grown accustomed to distrusting me. It started two years ago when he was shown the fake drugging video. The fake video had changed his impression of me and made him distrust me. And as time passed, his distrust became instinctive.
It didn’t matter who it was. As long as he had to choose between trusting me or someone else, he would automatically choose the other person. All because he was convinced his judgment was sound.
It didn’t matter that his misunderstanding of me had been cleared up. He still subconsciously believed his misassumptions about me were true. And because of this inherent belief, he refused to trust me.
Or rather, it could be said he had been this way from the beginning
He had always habitually trusted his intuition over me from the get–go. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have fallen for the fake video so easily.
Why else did he not question me about the video after Julianne had shown it to him? I was sure this was the reason he automatically assumed I was guilty without even confronting me about it.
In short, he had never trusted me. And he definitely didn’t love me despite claiming to.
Ms. Plume continued driving once the trackers had been discarded. She glanced at me through the rearview mirror and was surprised by my demeanor. I was neither afraid nor terrified by the sudden turn of events.
“What’s the matter? Have you already come to terms with your death? Is that why you no longer care what happens next?” She sneered, looking at me derisively.
I thought back to what was written in the journal. My past self had no clue why Ms. Plume was intensely hostile to her. And the same applied to Travis too. She was sure she hadn’t done anything to them to earn their ire.
In fact, she had gone out of her way to get on their good sides. They were Irvin’s trusted subordinates, after all. So why did they feel this way toward her? Why were they doing this to her?
My past self had been so confused that she began reflecting on herself. She wondered if she had done so questioned if people hated her because she was a bad person.
ing wrong. She
But my current self no longer felt that internal conflict. I knew I hadn’t done anything to offend them. They simply hated me for no reason. So, the problem was with them and not me.
They were fundamentally bad people. That was why they were doing this to me.
I didn’t have to reflect on myself because their actions had nothing to do with me. Instead, I should be fighting back against them.

I had to survive this and make it back. And if I managed to, I would make sure Ms. Plume ended up in prison too!
Ms.Plume sneered when she saw I was ignoring her.
“You deserve to die. Do you know that?” she spat. “Because once you do, Mr. Sawyer will be able to execute his brilliant exit plan from Sawyer Corp perfectly.
“He will swiftly rise and dominate the business world of the Andria continent. He will be king! People will call him a savant for how quickly he ascends to the peak!”
Ms. Plume worshipped and admired Irvin. She wanted him to stand at the top of the business world without any attachments. She didn’t want him to forsake his brilliant exit plan just because of his love for me And she surely didn’t wish to see him stray from his path to career success because of me.
Thus, she decided to take advantage of this kidnapping situation. She was going to ensure I died during this incident.
But there was something she hadn’t anticipated. There was a reason people were warned to not be too talkative.
Ms. Phame thought I wasn’t able to put up a fight, so she started yammering away. She was completely unaware that her partner was losing strength. He was struggling to keep the knife against my throat. And her grip on the steering wheel was loosening as well.
I had also subtly unlocked all the car doors using the central locking system. Now, I was merely waiting for the right moment. Then, I would snatch the steering wheel from her and kick her out of the car.
