Chapter 493
But Mason didn’t seem to feel any pain. He merely continued begging and knocking his head against the ground.
“Mr. Irvin only fell for Grace’s trap because I failed to protect him he said. “I let him down! He had saved my whole family. Yet, I caused him to suffer like this. I truly deserve to die a thousand times over!
“I’m begging you, Ms. Quill! Please talk to Mr. Irvin! Please! I’ll willingly be in service to you for life to repay you if you do!”
Mason genuinely believed he was to blame. Hence, he felt especially guilty. If he could give up his own life in exchange for Irvin’s happiness, he would gladly do so.
He was groveling so desperately that it started to scare me.
It wasn’t that I wanted Irvin to die. I just couldn’t bring myself to give him another chance.
Besides, it wasn’t a big deal for me to talk to him and persuade him to keep living. So, I agreed to Mason’s request and told him I would talk to Irvin.
Upon hearing this, Mason exhaled in relief before bowing a few more times. “Thank you, Ms. Quill! Thank you so much!”
For a moment, I didn’t even know what to say as I looked at his blood–covered forehead.
Just then, William showed up.
Mason had just stood up to leave. But when he spotted William, he immediately nodded his head respectfully in greeting. Then, after thanking me once again, he left.
William frowned slightly as he watched Mason go.
“What was that about?” he asked.
Our marriage might have been one of convenience, but we were still about to become husband and wife. I didn’t want him to get the wrong idea.
“He’s Irvin’s assistant,” I explained. “He told me Irvin doesn’t want to live anymore because he had been caught in Grace’s scheme. So he asked me to talk to Irvin.”
After a long silence, William looked at me and said, “Irvin really does need someone to give him a good talking to.”
William admired Irvin. Setting aside the foolish things Irvin had done in the past, he respected Irvin’s abilities when it came to business.
Even without anyone supporting his growth, Irvin far outshone Noah, whom William had personally groomed. Be it intuition or other aspects, Irvin was far superior. It was enough to make a person sigh–effort did pale in comparison in the face of true talent.
Irvin was a born businessman. For someone like him to die so young would be a real waste. Even William–his rival in love- didn’t want to see that happen.
William truly was an especially good person. He admired and valued Irvin’s talent. So, even though they stood on opposing sides, he didn’t wish to see Irvin fall just like that.
If even William, who saw Irvin as a rival, felt it would be a shame for Irvin to die, then what about me?
All I had ever wanted was for Irvin to live out the rest of his life in happiness. So I made up my mind. The next time I saw him, I had to sit down and have a proper talk with him.
What I didn’t expect was that I’d be seeing him again so soon.
