"Are you spending it with your boyfriend?" Lisa asked.

It completely slipped my mind until she mentioned it.

Ellie was in college, so it was perfectly normal for her to be dating.

She glanced at Lisa, a hint of panic in her eyes. I thought she was worried that I'd find out and tell Brandon, so I chuckled. "If you didn't have a boyfriend at your age, that would be unusual. Brandon and I would have reason to worry."

Just then, Brandon came out, carrying a tray with freshly squeezed juice and brewed coffee. He handed me the juice and handed Ellie the coffee. "Mae and I were just planning to visit you at college these days."

Brandon had always cherished his younger sister, remembering every little detail about her. But he was also thoughtful of my feelings, making sure to include me in the conversation.

"Now that you're on break, what are your plans?" Brandon asked, taking a seat.

"I want to go abroad." Ellie's words caught us all by surprise.

Even Brandon seemed surprised. Given her history of heart problems, she had never even left the village before.

"Are you planning on a trip?" he asked patiently.

Ellie paused for a couple of seconds. "Well, sort of. I mainly want to explore colleges abroad and possibly pursue further education."

Her words stirred up a mix of emotions within me. Ellie's pursuit of knowledge and exploration was evident in her aspirations to attend university and potentially study overseas.

In comparison, I felt like I had been too complacent, only focused on finding joy in the present moment.

Brandon didn't seem too surprised, though. "That's a great idea! Are you planning to go alone?"

Ellie's response was hesitant. "Yeah."

I looked over at him, who was focused on Ellie. "It's not safe to go abroad alone these days."

His refusal was direct and firm. Ellie immediately raised her head. "I'm not going somewhere dangerous. I'm going to..."
