_Mira’s POV_
The door creaked open, its hinges groaning like a warning. Aaron stepped inside, carrying a silver tray with a plate of food. The smell of roasted meat and something sweet filled the room, making my stomach twist. Hunger gnawed at me, but I kept my expression blank, refusing to show weakness.
Aaron’s eyes gleamed as he set the tray on a rickety table beside me. “You should eat,” he said, his voice calm but laced with mockery. “I can’t have you dying before the full moon.”
I glared at him, my wrists burning as I tugged against the ropes. “I’m not eating anything you give me.”
He smirked, lifting a fork and holding a piece of meat near my mouth. “Come on, Mira. Don’t be difficult.”
I turned my head away, refusing to let him feed me. The fork brushed against my lips, and my lips, and my stomach lurched.
Aaron sighed, wiping his hands on a cloth. “So stubby,” he muttered almost amused. Just like you mother.
I frowned, the words cutting through the haze of pain. “What are you talking about
He crouched down in front of me, this dark eyes gleaming with something dangerous “Adaline” he said softly “My sister. Your birth mother
My heart stopped. “You’re lying
He smirked. “Am I? Or are you just too bind to see the truth?”
I shook my head, tears stinging my eyes. “You’re trying to mess with my mind. Stop playing games.”
Aaron’s smile widened. “This isn’t a game, Mira. Adaline was mated to a lowly omega. She refused to reject him, even though she was of Alpha blood. Just like you, she was stubborn. Foolishly so.
“No,” I whispered. “This can’t be true.”
“Oh, but it is,” Aaron said, standing up. He paced the room, his voice calm, almost detached
“Adaline’s choices ruined everything. But that’s not what concerns me now. What matters is that I need you to break the curse.”
“Curse?” I echoed, my voice shaking
He nodded, his expression darkening. The Moon Goddess mated me to an omega. Her name was Isabella. But I didn’t accept her. An omega as my mate? It would have been a disgrace. I was supposed to be the most powerful Alpha, leading the strongest pack
Aaron’s voice turned cold. “My parents didn’t approve of the rejection. They wanted me to stay with her. But li couldn’t. So, I got rid of her.”
My stomach churned as memories from my dreams surfaced. Blood. Pain. A woman’s voice pleading. Isabella.
“You killed her,” I whispered, horrified.
Aaron shrugged. “She was weak. A liability.”
I clenched my fists, the ropes biting into my skin. “You’re a monster.”
He laughed, the sound hollow. “Perhaps. But it doesn’t matter now. After I killed Isabella, the Moon Goddess cursed me. She appeared in my dreams, telling me I would suffer for eternity. My powers diminished. I became immortal, but I could never be happy. The pack would never prosper under my rule.”
He paused, his eyes filled with a mix of rage and bitterness. “My parents didn’t even choose me as Alpha.
They chose Adaline’s mate, the omega. Adaline became Luna.”
I stared at him, my mind spinning. This was insane.
“I was enraged,” Aaron continued. “But then a witch told me there was a way to end the curse. A sacrifice. A family member with Alpha blood, under the full moon.”
My heart pounded in my chest.
“I planned to sacrifice Adaline,” Aaron said, his voice cold and detached. “She didn’t even know. She thought I came for a friendly visit. We had dinner. She welcomed me into her home.”
Tears blurred my vision. The dream. The blood. Her voice telling me to run. It had all been real.
“She was my mother,” I whispered, the realization hitting me like a punch to the gut. “Adaline was my mother.”
Aaron smiled, but there was no warmth in it. “Yes. And her sacrifice went in vain.”
I looked up at him, my voice trembling. “What do you mean?”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he turned and walked to the door, leaving me alone with the crushing weight of his words. The lock clicked behind him, echoing in the silence.
I slumped in the chair, tears streaming down my face. My mother. She had died because of him. Because of this curse. And I couldn’t save her.
I couldn’t save anyone.
