Chapter 114

Chloe had expected to have to talk lan into letting her go to the dinner with her colleagues, but to her surprise, he agreed right away.

His only condition was that he’d drive her there himself.

When they reached the hotel entrance, lan stepped out first and helped Chloe out by opening her door with a smooth, gentlemanly touch.

Ian gently took Chloe’s hand in his, his gaze soft and affectionate. “Enjoy yourself tonight. I’ll be back to pick you up later,” he said, voice warm.

Their eyes met, a silent understanding passing between them as they shared a tender moment.

Chloe couldn’t help but think Ian had been acting a little off these past couple of days.

She figured it was probably because his elders were putting so much pressure on him, and he couldn’t be with Andrea out in the open. He was starting to unravel a little.

Hearing her colleagues teasing from behind them, Chloe subtly pulled her hand away. “Take care driving back,” she said.

Ian waited until Chloe and her colleagues had gone inside the restaurant before getting back in his car and driving off.

Honestly, watching the way those two carried on, you’d never think they were the ones supposed to be getting divorced.

Once Chloe and her colleagues had settled into the private room, one of the women couldn’t help but start gossiping. “Seriously, Chloe’s husband is tall, handsome, and pure eye candy. Way better–looking than most celebs!”

Joanna was practically starry–eyed. “I saw it too! The way he talks to Chloe–his voice is seriously swoon- worthy. So gentle!”

Chloe and Eric exchanged glances, both letting out a wry smile.

No one would ever guess that the seemingly perfect, gentle husband was actually cheating on his wife with someone else.

Once everyone had taken their seats, a colleague poured Chloe a glass of wine–she accepted it without a second thought.

Whenever Eric was around, she could really relax.

Talking shop with people who totally clicked with her always made her happy.

As the dinner party moved into its second half, Chloe got up to go to the restroom.

Chapter 114

As she stepped out of the restroom, Chloe unexpectedly bumped into Andrea and Vivian.

Vivian, draped from head to toe in flashy designer brands, sized Chloe up with a mocking sneer. “Mrs. Hamilton, and that’s how you dress? Looks like Mr. Hamilton doesn’t care about you much after all.”

Chloe just shot Andrea a look, not even acknowledging Vivian’s taunt.

She wasn’t about to waste even a second of her life on someone as childish as Vivian.

Chloe washed her hands, then turned and walked out of the restroom without another word.

Andrea managed to get rid of Vivian and quickly jogged to catch up with Chloc.

Making sure no one else was around, Andrea blurted out, her voice barely above a whisper, “Chloe, are you honestly planning to divorce Ian and help me and my kid?”

Chloe had a few drinks, so she was feeling a bit buzzed, but her mind stayed clear.

She met Andrea’s gaze, holding it for a moment before nodding with conviction. “Absolutely.”

Andrea’s face turned sour, giving Chloe a suspicious look. “Okay, but how are you actually going to help me?”

Out of nowhere, Ian put her on the spot, and if she hadn’t sworn on her own son’s life, knowing how intense he could get, there’s no way he would’ve let her walk away unscathed.

Ian had made it clear as day—he was only accepting the child as his own just to keep her and her son safe.

She was completely powerless with Ian; unless the divorce was final, there was no way she’d dare reveal anything about how she really felt.

She had to be sure Chloe truly meant it when she said she wanted a divorce and wanted to help her.

Chloe found herself stumped by Andrea’s question.

She paused, hesitated a bit, and told her, “Don’t be in a hurry, just wait for the right chance.”

Andrea was getting restless; she couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Chloe, don’t waste time trying to brush me off.

Andrea tested the waters, her tone tentative. “Ian came to my place yesterday afternoon. He said he wanted to spend the night and really be there for me and my child. Honestly, I had a tough time convincing him to go home. I do want us to get along, you know. If you can’t get yourself to divorce lan, I don’t mind keeping things just the way they are.”

Chloe gazed at Andrea, her face unreadable and calm, showing no hint of emotion.

So after Ian dropped her off at her family’s house yesterday, he went straight over to see Andrea.

‘Impressive, Chloe thought bitterly. ‘He managed to put on such a flawless act right in front of me.‘

Just then, Arthur popped up out of nowhere. “Chloe, seriously, why do you keep bumping into this eyesore?”

Andrea’s face froze, completely thrown off by his jab.

Chloe shot Arthur a quick look, then addressed Andrea directly. ‘Ms. Sherman, I wouldn’t have said it if 1 wasn’t sure. I’ve made up my mind, and I’m not backing down.”

Hearing Chloe’s firm promise, Andrea’s tense expression softened just a little.

Doing her best to keep it together, Andrea said, “Alright, Chloe. I’ll trust you–just this once.”

Without giving anything away, Chloe let her gaze drift from Andrea’s hurried departure.

Andrea was ambitious, but too timid to take risks or ever defy Jan.

Ian was cold and calculating–never letting himself be caught off guard or vulnerable.

Looks like if someone had to get their hands dirty to make this happen, it was going to be her.

Chloe brushed Arthur’s arm off her shoulder. “Arthur, think you can swing by the hospital and get an appointment with me tomorrow morning?”

Arthur cleared his throat. “Yeah, but I just moved into a new place. Mind coming over to check it out? I’m worried the feng shui’s all messed up and it’s screwing with my sleep.”

Chloe shot back, “I’m a doctor, not some feng shui master.”

Arthur took her hand and started dragging her away. “Who cares what you are, as long as you can fix my sleep problems.”

“Arthur, I came here with my colleagues—at least let me go in and say hi to them,” Chloe tried to tug herself

free.

But Arthur just pulled her along, hauling her out of the hotel without giving her a chance, no matter how much she resisted.

Once Chloe was settled in Arthur’s souped–up sports car, she wasted no time–she called Eric right away and told him what was going on.

The sports car whipped through Blue Cove Residences and rolled to a stop right in front of Chloe’s building.

Chloe pushed open the door and got out. “Arthur, I’m a married woman–are you crazy or something, wanting to crash at my place?”

“If I wasn’t a little crazy, would I be coming to you?” Arthur fired back.

Arthur dragged Chloe straight into the elevator and punched the button for the eleventh floor.

He threw open his front door and shot her a mischievous grin. “Just bought this place! Shocked? Surprised?”

Chloe couldn’t help but give a crooked smile.

‘Well, talk about unexpected,‘ she thought to herself.

So Chloe and lan were on the ninth, Patrick was up on the thirteenth, and now Arthur had moved in right in between them on the eleventh.

‘Now this is gonna be fun,‘ Chloe thought to herself, a wry smile tugging at her lips.

Arthur jabbed a thumb at the room next to the master bedroom, flashing Chloe a crooked grin. “See that? Reserved it just for you. So next time you and your hubby go at it, you’ve got a spot to crash here. No excuses

That’s when it dawned on Chloe–she’d slipped out of the hotel way earlier than planned and totally forgot to give lan a heads–up. ‘Shoot, he’s probably wondering where I am,’ she thought, a little anxious.

She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Ian’s number.

But after letting it ring for a while with no answer, Chloe sent him a quick text, just to let him know she’d left and not to worry.

Honestly, the way a place is decorated–from the furniture to the little touches–can definitely affect how well you sleep.

Since she was already there, she decided to help him out by making a few adjustments.

When Chloe saw the space right outside the master bedroom decked out as a hardcore gaming room, she didn’t hesitate–just set her phone down and yanked out the main power strip.

Arthur went scrambling over like a crazed ape to stop her, but Chloe just hit him with a deadly glare. “If you seriously want to kick your sleep issues for good, this e–sports zone has to go–far away from your bedroom.”

Just then, Chloe’s phone started ringing.

She spun

around to grab it, but Arthur swiped it with ridiculous speed and picked up himself, barking out a quick, “Hello?”

On the other end, Ian’s voice came on, dark and icy. “Who are you?”

Arthur snorted, totally unimpressed. “Easy there, tough guy. Maybe start with introducing yourself first–who are you supposed to be?”
