Chapter 49
F:.
Ian pulled up to the apartment building where the Irvine family lived,
He texted Chloe, asking her to come downstairs.
As he waited, lan felt restless, unable to calm down.
He kept scrolling through his phone.
After a few minutes with no reply, lan got out of the car.

Frank and Jill had just finished a call with Chloe and were about to go to bed when they heard a knock.
Seeing lan, they darkened their faces.
Frank blocked the doorway. “Ian, what brings you here so late?”
Ian glanced toward the living room. “Frank, Jill, I’m here to talk to Chloe about something.”
Frank and Jill exchanged glances.
Jill said, “Chloe is studying overseas. She’s not at home.”
Ian’s face fell. “Jill, when did this happen?”
He thought, ‘I can’t believe my own wife went abroad without telling me.‘
He felt a mix of disbelief and frustration.
Jill tugged on Frank’s arm, stepping aside to let Ian in, and then went to pour him a glass of water.
Frank’s voice had an unfamiliar edge. “Ian, you haven’t visited in ages. And since Chloe isn’t around, there’s something Jill and I have wanted to say to you for a while.”
Ian sat down across from them, keeping his tone respectful. “Frank, Jill just say it. No need to hold back.”
Frank sighed, “lan, you’ve always been a good kid. The Irvine family owes you a lot, and we remember everything you’ve done for us.”
Then his tone changed. “But we spoiled Chloe too much. She’s moody, dramatic, and high maintenance. She’s not a good match for you. Now that you’ve found someone new and even have a child, Chloe shouldn’t get in the way of your life anymore. Let’s just end this. You should divorce Chloe.”
Ian’s expression froze, his face awkward.
He tugged at the corner of his mouth, trying to explain. “Frank, Jill, there are things I can’t tell you, but I’ve never once thought about divorcing Chloe.”
He got up. “Please don’t get involved in our marriage. Let us work it out between ourselves.”

Jill, felt sorry for Chloe, said sharply, “Tan, a real man keeps his word. We managed to gather the 300 million you wanted. Chloe’s had feelings for you since she was a kid. Can you please stop putting her through this? Just end it and get the divorce.”
Ian ignored her plea and pressed on, “Mom, just tell me which country Chloe went to. Where is she living now?”
Jill stood up and deliberately turned her back on Jan, her voice unwavering, ‘Chloe has finally stopped crying I won’t let you hurt her again.”
Frank got up to open the door. “We’ve said our piece. Take some time, think it over, and get the divorce papers signed with Chloe as soon as you can.”
Though heartbroken for Chloe and furious with Ian for betraying her, Jill and Frank kept their dignity and restraint, refraining from any harsh words.
Ian stood up and glanced at Jill, who still had her back to him.
He hesitated for a moment, and then walked straight to the door.
Stopping in front of Frank, Ian said, “Frank, Jill, I’m not going to divorce Chloe.”
With that, Ian walked out, the door closing firmly behind him.
Ian just stood there at the door, dazed, unable to bring himself to leave.
As far back as he could remember, every time he visited, Frank and Jill would bustle around, making him feel at home.
They’d always treated him like their own son. Even when they couldn’t help much when things went wrong, that never stopped them from worrying about him.
Even back when he and Chloe were on the brink of divorce, Frank and Jill would still cook for him and check in to see how his work was going.
But now, for the first time, he could feel them shutting him out, cold and distant.
Jan got into his car, frustration seething in his chest. Without hesitation, he called Mitchell. “Mitchell, I need you to look into Chloe’s schedule over the past few days while I was away. Find out where she’s been and where she is now.”
Late at night, in a private booth on the third floor of the Royal Court Club, Patrick found lan passed out on the couch.
He checked if fan was still breathing, but fan brushed his hand away. Seeing that, Patrick finally relaxed and sat down opposite him.
Ian sat up, pressing his fingers to his temples, looking utterly exhausted.
Patrick dropped his usual cool demeanor. “I checked your place before coming here. Andrea and Clint are gone. Seriously, you look terrible. Go home and get some sleep. We’ll sort everything out tomorrow. Chloe’s

just gone overseas, not disappeared off the face of the earth.”
Ian didn’t say a word. He just poured himself another drink.

Patrick couldn’t hold it in anymore. “lan, Chloe sold her mom’s heirloom jewelry, redid your whole house, personally let Andrea and Clint move in, and she even handed over her wedding ring. What do you think all
that means?”
Ian hung his head, feeling like he’d been punched in the gut, completely drained.
Patrick pressed on, “She’s not just upset, Ian. She really wants a divorce for real.”
“She won’t,” Ian insisted firmly.
“She’s just upset,” Ian said, shaking his head. “She let Andrea and Clint move into our place and gave Andrea the wedding ring on purpose. She’s just trying to back me into a corner and make me choose.”
Patrick just stared at Ian, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He was totally speechless and at a loss for words.
In the middle of the night, Patrick made sure Ian got home safe.
Ian stood in the entryway, staring at the slippers Andrea had laid out for him. He hesitated, and then just left them there.
Patrick walked into the living room and took in all the creamy decor. He couldn’t hold back his critique. “Ian, no offense, but Andrea’s taste can’t hold a candle to Chloe’s. Your grandma might have liked this style if she were still around.”
Ian gave Patrick a sharp look. “Don’t tell Mia that Chloe went abroad.”
Patrick’s
eyes widened. “Seriously? You know Mia. Like I could ever hide something like that from her.”
Ian said nothing. He just trudged upstairs, feeling like he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
After his shower and a change into pajamas, lan went straight to the study.
He collapsed onto the couch, where the coffee table held the three things Chloe had left behind: the divorce papers, a bank card, and her wedding ring.
Those were the only things in the house that still connected lan to Chloe.
Everything else had been burned. Not even a hair tie was left.
Just then, Ian’s phone buzzed. He answered.
It was Mitchell. “Mr. Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton left for Tecnovia the day before you came back. She took a job at the Jordan family’s private hospital there. I’ve sent her address to your phone.”
Ian frowned, “Tecnovia? The Jordan family’s hospital?”

Mitchell replied, “Yeah, the Jordan family from Verdantville. She was referred by Eric, their third son.
