Riley had wanted to make it to the sixtieth floor so she could come and go with Logan. Too bad...
"What’s the point of ’face’? I don’t want to compete fairly with you."
Selina’s smile was lazy, almost mocking.
"Keep trying, Miss Nelson. Work hard and maybe one day you’ll make it up to the sixtieth floor. I’ll be waiting."
"You—!"
Selina heard the furious shout behind her, followed by the sound of a coffee cup shattering.
She just shrugged and stepped into the elevator.
...
When she got back to the sixtieth floor, she saw the secretaries trying hard not to look too curious. Selina lifted her eyelids lazily and strolled over.
"Is Logan back yet?"
The team lead swallowed nervously.
"Y-Yes, Mr. Reid asked you to come in."
Damn, she thought, no wonder Jack says Mrs. Reid is not someone you want to cross. She’s impressive.
...
Selina walked into the office. Logan was standing by the window.
The room was soundproof, with a panoramic view of the city through massive floor-to-ceiling glass.
She sat down at the computer without ceremony.
"Riley came by just now."
Logan’s eyebrow lifted.
"She gave you trouble?"
Selina thought about it. Well... if starting trouble includes me giving Riley trouble... She nodded seriously.
"Yes."
Logan looked a bit surprised, then glanced down and tapped his phone twice.
A second later, Selina’s company group chat started pinging like crazy.
She glanced at it and sighed.
"...’Staff below the sixtieth floor must file an application to come up’?"
"Mrs. Reid got harassed on her first day. Time to set some rules."
Selina’s expression turned complicated.
"You seriously want me involved in this? I thought I was here to be your decoy while you hunt the mole."
Logan’s gaze softened.
"What’s mine is yours."
Selina got it.
"Oh. You just want me to work for you."
Logan: "..."
Selina rested her chin on her palm.
"But Riley’s probably furious now. And there are probably a few other people who’ll hate me even more."
"Oh? How so?"
Selina gave him a meaningful smile.
"Because I’ve been telling people I only came to work at Reid Group because of the Nelson family’s leaked engagement rumors. Like I was desperate to defend my status as the real wife."
"Basically... everyone probably thinks I’m not taking my job seriously. Which is fine."
Logan understood immediately.
By making it look like jealousy, Selina had given herself the perfect excuse to be his assistant, with authority to look into anything.
Normally the spies on staff would be extra careful. But with that story, they’d drop their guard.
But still...
Logan shook his head.
"It’s not good for your reputation."
"What’s bad about it?" Selina blinked at him.
Logan’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
They’ll say she’s got no real talent. That she’s just using her looks. That she’s a seductress.
But he knew exactly what kind of person she really was. He couldn’t stand anyone misunderstanding her.
He wanted the entire world to see how brilliant she was.
Selina just waved it off.
"Mr. Reid, it’s just gossip. I don’t care. And no one’s dumb enough to say it to my face. As long as I don’t hear it, it doesn’t exist."
Besides, she genuinely wanted to help Logan.
And this was the best way—subtle, effective, without tipping anyone off.
She said directly, "Jack told me you suspect that assistant Stone. I’ll figure out a way to test him. And about Riley—I don’t like her. If she tries coming to the sixtieth floor again, I’ll deal with her myself."
Logan nodded.
"Handle it however you want. As for Riley..."
