Owen’s eyes bulged as he threw a tantrum. "Dad, you yelled at me?!"
Amelia’s heart ached. "Daniel, what are you doing? Owen’s still young—how can you be so harsh with him? It’s clearly these shareholders’ fault! They’re all just working for Owen—how dare they speak to the boss like that..."
Owen, without the slightest self-awareness, added, "That’s right! The Reid Family will be mine sooner or later, and I don’t need disobedient employees!"
"Heh, Chairman Reid, it seems we were the fools here. We were ready to stand by you out of loyalty, to weather this storm together..."
At that moment, one shareholder let out a bitter laugh, slapped his credentials down on the table, and said sharply, "Fine, fine, fine!"
"Since your heir and your wife don’t need us, as of today, I’m officially withdrawing from Reid Family Group. My shares will be put up for sale immediately."
Daniel’s heart sank—he wanted to stop him.
But Amelia cut in eagerly, sneering, "Perfect! Then get out! Daniel, we don’t need such disobedient employees. What, you really think Reid Family Group can’t run without you?"
Veins stood out on Daniel’s forehead. "Amelia..."
But the next moment, several more shareholders removed their badges one after another, faces cold.
"Chairman Reid, let us give you one last piece of advice. If you let Owen inherit Reid Family Group, then Reid Family Group will collapse. If a shareholder like me can be insulted and kicked, what about the rest of the executives and employees? What’s a company without its people? You think you can hold it together alone? You think you’re Logan?"
"That’s enough. We’ve said our piece. Since we’re just the ’old fossils’ Owen despises, we’ll stop being an eyesore. We resign!"
In an instant, nearly all the shareholders of Reid Family Group resigned. Shares flooded the market, the price plummeting again and again.
Daniel’s face was ashen. He’d been insulted, but he knew this wasn’t the time to act out of pride—he had to salvage the situation.
"Gentlemen—"
"Dad, why bother begging them? We still have twenty billion!" Owen scoffed.
Amelia quickly caught on. "Exactly! Miss Paula will invest twenty billion. With that money, why worry about overseas markets? We can invest at least part of it."
Daniel wavered. Yes—twenty billion. They still had twenty billion in cash...
Bang, bang, bang!
The conference room doors rattled with heavy knocks. The secretary rushed in, pale and flustered. Amelia was just about to scold her when the secretary blurted, "Chairman Reid... Mr. Reid is here!"
The departing shareholders instinctively turned back.
Logan entered with his usual calm, but the natural aura of authority clung to him as he walked forward unhurriedly.
Behind him trailed the Reid Family Group’s guards, visibly anxious, afraid Mr. Reid might clash with the chairman.
The shareholders’ hearts stirred. This was the true heir of Reid Family Group. And yet, look at what Amelia and Owen had turned the company into...
"Logan! What are you doing here!" Owen’s face twisted, fury boiling. The moment Logan appeared, it felt like all his spotlight was stolen.
Logan looked indifferent, not sparing him a glance. "Chairman Reid is still clinging to that twenty billion?"
Daniel ground his teeth. "What are you trying to say?"
"Jack, show Chairman Reid the news."
At Logan’s cue, Jack bowed and said, "Perhaps Chairman Reid should turn on the financial channel. Miss Paula did come bearing Duke William’s command, bringing twenty billion to invest in Reid Family Group. Unfortunately..."
One of the shareholders had already switched on the finance channel.
On screen, Duke William of Country Y was giving an interview, announcing he would withdraw his investment in Reid Family Group. He didn’t give a reason, but anyone who had followed the perfume competition knew—Paula had lost to Selina.
"You and Selina planned this! Paula’s bet with Selina was your scheme all along! It was you! You bastards, the both of you! Give me back my twenty billion—that was my money!"
Logan’s gaze remained calm, detached.
One of the executives sneered. "Young Master Owen, you and Mr. Reid are worlds apart. You say Clark Miss set you up? Even if Paula provoked it—even if it truly was a scheme—so what? The fact remains: the twenty billion is gone. Instead of trying to salvage the situation, you’re here throwing a tantrum at Mr. Reid."
"I’d say the downfall of Reid Family Group is already sealed. Bravo, Chairman Reid. Back then, marrying Miss Anna wasn’t enough—you had to cheat with her own sister. And now? Between a mistress and an illegitimate so-called ’adopted son,’ you’ve managed to destroy the entire Reid Family Group."
The shareholders shook their heads with weary disdain. "A curse, a jinx reborn..."
"Best we leave now, before we’re dragged down with it..."
Logan’s lips curved. "Gentlemen—would you be willing to sell your shares?"
The shareholders’ eyes lit up.
Daniel roared, his voice hoarse. "How dare you! You’re not allowed—Logan, what are you trying to do?!"
Logan didn’t even glance at him. He gathered the shares into his control, then turned and walked away.
...
Reid Family Group’s stock price plummeted. Large and small shareholders alike scrambled to sell, terrified that if they waited any longer, their shares would be worthless.
The company had already been in decline, but now, under crushing pressure, it had nowhere left to survive.
Daniel had never been a business genius. Once, he had relied on Anna; later, he relied on Logan. But now Anna was gone, and Logan was the enemy. Faced with this disaster, he had no idea what to do.
Elsewhere, when Selina saw Logan return, she immediately went to greet him.
