Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' novel Chapter 590

Chapter 590: Playing the Victim

Right, it’s fine. Hannah has been in the Hill Family for so many years, her roots run deep—she’ll definitely protect him...

The driver put on a show of fear, denying flatly: "How could I possibly try to harm the Hill Family’s young lady? I’m the Hill Family’s driver, I have no grudge against her. Why would I want to hurt her? I’m not insane! Don’t I know that if I laid a hand on her, the consequences for me would be fatal?"

That, admittedly, didn’t sound unreasonable. Quite a few people who heard him thought he had a point.

—A driver whose entire livelihood depended on the Hill Family, trying to kill the Hill Family’s heiress? He’d have to be crazy.

The driver pressed on, "Mr. Reid, even if you gave me a hundred lives, I’d never dare to do such a thing..."

Besides, Selina wasn’t even seriously injured. No matter how much she exaggerated, so what? Who would believe it?

Even if she claimed he had deliberately caused the accident, she was standing right here, perfectly fine. A car accident? Please.

Logan’s gaze turned icy, pinning the driver. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"A hundred lives? Then the real question is—who gave you those lives to gamble with?"

His words carried a sharp implication. "Wouldn’t you say so, Ms. Hill?"

The driver trembled all over. "Mr. Reid, you’ve truly misunderstood me..."

"Mr. Reid," Hannah interjected smoothly, "we can’t rely on just the driver’s word. Why don’t we have Selina step out first?"

Hannah added with feigned helplessness, "This driver has been with the Hill Family for years. He’s never made a mistake. How could it be that Selina returns, and suddenly he’s trying to harm her? Isn’t this a misunderstanding? Why not let Selina come out and clear it up?"

Logan’s eyes snapped toward her, sharp and merciless.

Hannah’s heart gave a violent jolt, though her face remained serene. "We need to hear what really happened, Mr. Reid. We can’t judge on one-sided words. If you claim the driver tried to kill Selina, then Selina herself should step forward and say so—show some proof. Otherwise, the Hill Family won’t allow anyone to smear our driver without reason."

Her righteous words won over quite a few onlookers, especially Hill Family’s servants and staff.

Jeff had only just returned and hadn’t yet replaced them. These servants had always sided with Hannah and Matt, looking down on the Hill Family’s true bloodline. And now that they’d heard Selina was raised in the countryside, they likely thought she wasn’t even as good as they were.

And now, because of a few words from Selina, the driver was supposed to lose his job? Why would a loyal driver suddenly try to kill her? Obviously, Selina was lying!

Hannah allowed herself a gentle smile as she walked to the car, her expression graceful.

"Selina, are you alright? What really happened?"

She had caught the look in the driver’s eyes earlier, and that confirmed it—Selina wasn’t injured. Or at least, not seriously.

It was a shame Selina hadn’t died today, but under the current circumstances, the fact that she wasn’t badly hurt worked in Hannah’s favor.

A perfectly fine heiress claiming the driver had tried to kill her, without a shred of evidence—after arriving an hour late? Who would believe her?

The car remained still.

Hannah’s eyes gleamed, her certainty growing. Selina wasn’t injured, she had realized something was off, and now she didn’t dare come out.

That was exactly what Hannah wanted—to drag Selina out of the car, let everyone see she was unscathed, and expose Selina’s so-called "lies."

With affected worry, Hannah coaxed, "Selina, Mr. Reid said you were injured. Come out, will you? I’ll have the doctor check you over. The Hill Family is your home—there’s no need to hide anything."

But the car remained utterly motionless.

Hannah let out a sigh. "Selina..."

"Why won’t big sister get out of the car? Is it because she’s guilty?" Ava feigned a coy pout, putting on an air of cuteness as she muttered softly, "I think she’s just late. Everyone says the Hill Family is her home—so even if she was late, if she just explained properly, of course people would forgive her. But instead, she had to claim there was some car accident..."

What... what was this?!

The woman stepping out of the car was covered in injuries. Even though she had been bandaged, the severity of her wounds was obvious. She looked pale and weak, and the gash on her arm seemed to have reopened, faint traces of red seeping through.

"Apologies. The car drove toward West Cliff. There was an accident."

Selina’s voice was cool and calm. "I’ve kept Ms. Hill and Miss Hill waiting. That was my fault."

The crowd: "..."

Ava and Hannah: "!"

Was Selina... playing the pure white victim?!

One society lady gasped, hand flying to her mouth. "Miss Clark is injured this badly?! Quickly, fetch a doctor! Miss Clark, if you were in a car accident, how could you still come here? If the Hill Family’s master finds out, his heart will break."

Most of the onlookers were ordinary enough. Seeing Selina hurt and still insisting on showing up, their first thought was she should be in a hospital.

But Selina only spoke softly, with a faint touch of irony:

"If I didn’t come, wouldn’t that mean leaving Ms. Hill waiting for nothing? That would weigh heavily on me. And if I broke the Hill Family’s rules because of it... what then?"

The lady who had spoken earlier instantly understood the hidden meaning, her expression souring as she shot Hannah a disdainful glance.

Selina had clearly been in a car accident—yet Hannah had accused her of deliberately being late. Selina had arrived, badly injured, and Hannah still tried to paint her as rude and disrespectful.

If Selina hadn’t shown up at all, wouldn’t Hannah and Matt have been free to spin whatever lies they wanted?
