Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Lightning Return

Author’s POV

As Freya stepped into the walk-in closet, she pushed open the sliding door only to discover all her belongings were still there, undisturbed and untouched. Nothing had been removed or rearranged since she’d left. Her wolf spirit, Selene, stirred within her, sensing her confusion.

Pushing aside her conflicting emotions, she grabbed a set of pajamas and a towel before leaving the master bedroom and heading to Isabella’s room.

Isabella was sitting up in bed playing with her tablet. When she noticed the clothes in Freya’s hands, she looked puzzled. "Mom, are you going to shower in my bathroom?"

"Yes," Freya replied simply, not offering any further explanation.

She hadn’t been in the bathroom long when Silvano entered Isabella’s bedroom. His powerful presence immediately filled the space, his wolf senses automatically searching for Freya.

Noticing his gaze drift toward the bathroom door, Isabella explained, "That’s Mom showering in there."

"Hmm," Silvano acknowledged, his expression unreadable. The bond between them hummed with tension even through the closed door. "Did you ask her to shower here?"

"No," Isabella replied, looking confused. "She brought her clothes over on her own."

Silvano didn’t pursue the matter further. He sat on the edge of the bed and chatted with Isabella briefly about her day before instructing her to rest soon and then leaving the room.

Though Freya heard movement and voices outside, the running water muffled their conversation. Her wolf’s heightened senses picked up Silvano’s distinctive scent lingering in the room when she emerged, but she didn’t comment on it.

Isabella was still battling her illness, and the medication made her drowsy. Seeing it was getting late, Freya slipped into bed beside her daughter after her shower.

Isabella immediately nestled against her mother, burrowing into the crook of Freya’s neck. "Mom smells so good and feels so soft," she murmured contentedly.

In that moment, Isabella felt that her mother’s embrace was the most comfortable place in the world. Even more comforting than Auntie Aurora’s. However, knowing Freya’s dislike for Aurora, she kept this comparison to herself.

Isabella fell asleep quickly, her small body relaxing completely against Freya’s. Despite her own exhaustion, Freya found herself slipping into the familiar routine of motherhood. Throughout the night, she woke several times to cover Isabella, who had a habit of kicking off her blankets when sick. Each time, she would carefully tuck the covers around her daughter’s small frame before allowing herself to drift back to sleep.

By morning, Freya had slept poorly but woke with the first light. Isabella was still sound asleep. Moving quietly, Freya rose from the bed and approached the window. As expected, she spotted Silvano running his usual morning route below. His powerful form moved with the natural grace of an Alpha wolf as he maintained a pace that would keep him out for about an hour.

After washing up and changing into clothes she found in the closet, Freya headed downstairs to prepare breakfast. The familiar routine of moving through the kitchen that had once been her domain came back naturally, her hands remembering exactly where everything was kept.

Half an hour later, she handed the remaining preparations over to Sara. After confirming Isabella showed no signs of fever returning, Freya collected her purse and car keys from upstairs and slipped out of the house.

Not long after her departure, Isabella woke. She searched the room with sleepy eyes, then wandered through the house. "Where’s Mom?" she asked when she couldn’t find Freya.

Sara smiled reassuringly. "The Luna had some matters to attend to and stepped out."

Isabella’s lips formed a disappointed pout. "Oh..."

"But," Sara added quickly, "she prepared your breakfast before leaving."

This brightened Isabella’s mood considerably. Though still recovering, her appetite had returned. After washing up, she made her way downstairs to eat.

Moments later, Silvano descended the stairs, his dark hair still damp from his shower. When he didn’t see Freya, he paused briefly. "Where is..." he hesitated before using her formal title, "the Luna?"

"She left, Alpha," Sara replied simply.

Silvano nodded, his expression carefully neutral as he joined Isabella at the table, though his wolf spirit stirred restlessly within him.

Meanwhile, Freya had returned to her apartment. After eating a light breakfast, she packed her computer and essentials, preparing to report to her new job. Just as she was about to leave, the doorbell rang.

Checking the security monitor, she saw her neighbor Mrs. Winters standing there with her young daughter Amy. Freya opened the door to find Mrs. Winters looking anxious.
