Medical Genius Unspeakable Marriage (Matthew Larson) novel Chapter 3585

When Matthew spoke, the woman's face instantly turned pale with panic.

How could this be happening?

She was sure she hadn't said a word to give herself away—her disguise was flawless.

So, how did they figure out her identity so quickly?

"You've got it all wrong," she blurted out. "I really am just a regular person who escaped!"

Matthew stared her down, raising his voice. "Ma'am, how many of you are there?"

"You've misunderstood! I swear I'm alone!"

This time, she was more careful—she didn't actually answer his question.

It was like any answer she gave would only help him guess the truth.

Matthew smirked.

"Your tone's a little shaky. Sounds like your numbers aren't too big. Maybe if we're on high alert, we could even do some real damage to your crew."

His words lit a fire in her.

"I said I'm alone! Stop making wild guesses. If you don't want to help me, just say so. I'll leave!"

"You're getting defensive. Guess I hit a nerve."

Matthew gave a casual smile and turned his attention away from her.

He shouted to Ryan, "Not many on the other side. If you see them—open fire."

"Judging by what she said," he continued, "she's either one of the captives from the island who switched sides to join the Bloodfin Gang—or she was part of the gang all along. But I'd bet there really are captives on the island. No clue what the Bloodfin Gang is keeping them for, though."

Ryan, who was adjusting the position of a secondary cannon through binoculars, replied quickly, "Matthew, I've got eyes on a ship in the distance. Looks like a mid-size warship. Standard crew on something like that would be just over a hundred."

Matthew nodded, then spoke again.

"Let's go. Bring us in close—I want to see where they got the guts to come out here."

As its engines roared to life, the Medusa Warship headed straight for the coordinates Ryan had identified.

Back below, the woman who had just been pleading moments earlier watched in horror as the Medusa Warship powered up and began moving toward the spot where her own group had anchored.

Bang!

"Sigh… the burden of talent. Ordinary folks just don't understand."

Matthew shook his head and looked out toward the open sea.

Suddenly, a mid-size warship came into view—just as Ryan had described.

Matthew narrowed his eyes.

"So, do we open fire, or...?"

Ryan, suddenly all business, looked to him for the call.

Gone was the swagger—now he was serious, voice low and focused.

Matthew thought for a moment, then spoke.

"Open fire. Make sure we leave someone alive. Once it's over, we'll grab one and get some answers."

Without hesitation, Ryan pressed his palm to the launch button.

Fire.
