After fighting the Medusa Gang so many times without ever encountering another emissary, Matthew finally realized that the gang didn't have many emissaries to begin with—maybe a few dozen at most—and they were scattered across the entire West Montiria Islands. The one he had killed back on Larch Island must've had some unknown reason for venturing to such an obscure, out-of-the-way place.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
Echo nodded without hesitation. "Absolutely. That person was definitely an emissary. I heard them call him that—clear as day."
Matthew pulled the silver needles from Echo's body and then brushed his fingers across his waist. The needles vanished from sight in a practiced motion.
"All right. You should be able to move now."
Relief lit up Echo's face. He pushed himself up—but the moment he shifted, a searing pain ripped through his chest, draining the color from his face.
Matthew watched calmly. "I kept you alive, but your chest wound is serious. I applied medicine, but I didn't have any anesthesia with me. So yeah… It's going to sting a little."
"A little"? Echo grumbled in exasperation. You call this a little?! More like excruciating as f*ck!
Still, Matthew had just saved his life. A little pain—hell, even if it was a lot of pain—was nothing in comparison. Even if the pain were in, say, more sensitive areas, Echo knew he couldn't complain.
"No worries. Thank you, Mr. Larden. I'm in no shape to take you there myself, but… do you have a map?"
Matthew spread his hands.
A map? Of all the things in the world, maps were what Matthew hated the most. Ever since arriving in the West Montiria Islands, it felt like everyone expected him to read one. Back in Cathay, even using a GPS annoyed him. Carrying a physical map? Absolutely not.
"There's a hidden compartment behind the bookshelf. I've got a map in there—one I drew myself. Just look at that and you'll be able to find the Medusa Gang's base. To open it, just press on it."
Matthew followed Echo's gaze to the bookshelf. Sure enough, there it was—lined with mismatched books. He walked over and scanned the shelf.
Matthew froze for a second. Smut? You want me, Cathay's lead Summit Warden of the Martial League, to look for a smut book?
Oh, a "SMUT" book…
Matthew pressed lightly against it, and with a soft click, a compartment popped open, revealing a neatly stacked set of maps.

Got it. His eyes lit up as he pulled it out—then immediately frowned. Wait a second. "Detailed"? This thing's a rough sketch!
