The elevator chimed, and the doors slid open. Quinn stepped out, leading Matthew and Ariya into the corridor.

The moment they exited, a biting cold hit them. Without a word, Nathaniel handed Matthew two coats.

"In case you feel cold."

Matthew nodded his thanks and helped Ariya into one of the thick jackets.

Children didn't have the same immunity adults did—it was too easy for them to fall sick.

The oversized coat wrapped around her small body, making her cheeks turn a rosy pink.

Matthew, however, simply held the second coat in his hand. The cold didn't seem to bother him in the slightest.

Nathaniel glanced at him, clearly surprised, but didn't say anything. He just continued walking deeper into the facility.

"She fell off a chair," Nathaniel began, his voice low. "By the time I rushed back, she was barely hanging on."

"We managed to find a way to keep her alive—just barely."

They stopped in front of a steel door, frost creeping over its surface.

The temperature had already dipped below minus thirty degrees.

Matthew noticed Ariya starting to shiver.
