Sebastian's phone started ringing, and he picked it up. "Mm, got it. I'll be right there. Send the VP on the business trip. I don't have time for that. Mm, clear my schedule for the next month. What's so important?"

His gaze softened as he looked at Roxanne's delicate features. "I'm getting engaged."

The spoon in Roxanne's hand froze midair. But her face remained impassive.

He leaned in and placed a kiss on her soft cheek. "I have to take care of something at the office. I'll pick you up for dinner tonight."

Just as she was about to say something, he cut her off, "No excuses."

She clenched her fists. "Fine."

A satisfied smile spread across his chiseled face. "Good."

Then, Sebastian stood up, his tall and lean figure exuding an air of unattainable elegance, like a deity sculpted to perfection.

Roxanne used to be fooled by that face. That was why she never saw the madness lurking beneath.

The moment he walked out the door, she finally let out a long breath.

Lucy hurried over. "Rox, Mr. Hayes didn't hurt you last night, did he?"

Seeing the concern in Lucy's eyes, Roxanne couldn't help but chuckle. "Lucy, don't worry. No matter how angry Sebastian gets, he'd never stoop so low as to hit a woman."

She was certain about that.

Lucy finally let out a sigh of relief.

Roxanne picked up her brand-new phone. All the apps had already been installed by Sebastian out of courtesy. She logged into WhatsApp.

The moment she logged in, several notifications popped up.

The first one was from Zachary at 11:00 pm last night.

"I got home."
