When Roxanne got into the car, Sebastian draped a coat over her shoulders. "It's cold out. Don't catch a chill."
"Thanks." Roxanne's reaction was calm.
He handed her an exquisite box, surprising her. "For me?"
He smiled warmly and lowered his gaze slightly, his deep-set eyes fixed on her delicate face. "It's just you and me in this car. If not for you, then who else?"
She shrugged. "I didn't expect this."
He leaned back and smiled casually. "Are you surprised I got you a gift?"
She chuckled softly. "Yeah, hasn't it been two or three years since you last gave me one? You used to have your assistant send me gifts on schedule, but in recent years, you've forgotten. I stopped expecting anything from you a long time ago."
Whether it was back then or now, she had never looked forward to receiving gifts from him because they were never heartfelt. He gave expensive things—necklaces worth millions, limited edition handbags, custom dresses and designer heels.
And yet, he never personally gave them to her. It was always his assistant who delivered them. It didn't feel like a boyfriend giving his girlfriend a present. It felt like checking off a task.
She would have preferred something small, something he had randomly picked up because he had thought of her, instead of those flashy, impractical things. Most of them were still tucked away.
She was lost in thought, so she didn't notice the storm brewing in his eyes when she casually mentioned that he hadn't given her a gift in years.
They soon arrived at the restaurant.
